Here Comes Everybody

The first thing that popped in my head after reading all this was KONY 2012. When I watched the 30min long video, I was amazed on how much efforts people exerted in to that project to save the children that Kony kidnapped, and how successful things have been going on for them. It was mentioned in the video that, the government wouldn’t do anything about that matter if the people wouldn’t show that they really care about the project, and that they really believe that the government should really help Uganda.

It’s practically the same as this. They all worked hard to retrieve the phone that Sasha have stolen. I kind of feel like she got harassed for the reason that she’s still young and that’s kind of a traumatic experience for her, but the point is she stole the phone and she refused to return this.

Going back to the subject, the organization that Evan had created is just amazing. I personally didn’t know that that’s possible. I guess that relates to the topic that we discussed in class, which is the network effects. Evan just proved how powerful the network effect can get.

Aside from the organization and network effects, something about news and how its being broadcasted was also mentioned. This has been an on going subject. Whether or not news should only be done by professionals. Some people people that it should be done by professionals just because it wouldn’t be biased plus they have a more solid idea of what really happened.

But I remember this one time in my Speech class where in my professor showed us a newspaper. I can’t really remember what the big news was about, but right next to the big news there was a picture of a woman trying to jump of the building, and there was a huge writing of “NOOO!” written all over the picture. My professor concluded that the editor doesn’t approve of the big news. [It has something to do with the a decision that the government is going to make.] and that the editor purposely wrote “NOOO!” next to it to manipulate the readers to make them think that the government shouldn’t do what they’re planning to do.

So it’s really hard to tell. People will say what they want to say professional, or not.

I think it’s almost a part of human nature, whether it be professional or amateur, to report “news” that you think is worth reporting.

Inevitably, it will always be the bias of the reader to determine what is news-worthy. If you read it and spread it, it’s news to you, if you don’t, then it wasn’t truly news to you. It’s like two people grabbing the same newspaper; one reads the sports section, one reads about the politics.. it’s all determined by the reader.

With the right focus and the right following, your news will garner the attention you want it to, or even more. That’s an advantage of living here, you can say what you want (to an obvious extent) and you will have supporters and you will have detractors…I think the most important thing is to keep it valid and if you have the right following, your news will be news.
