Dear Hiring Manager,

I recently learned about the Marketing Director position opening at ESPN through an advertisement on LinkedIn. In this advertisement, the requirements included having marketing experience, strong interpersonal relationship skills, and ability to create advertisements that will generate engagements. My skill set and past experiences will show that I should be a strong candidate for this position.

My school and work experience include learning how to be an effective communicator, creating and managing email and social media marketing, and I also have experience with managing social media. This past summer I had the opportunity to intern at Igluu LLC, an upcoming NYC based real estate and technology company. This experience has taught me how to create a buzz for a website by creating effective email marketing, social media publications, and event planning. This internship has improved my innovative thinking skills and have taught me how to be a better communicator and advertiser. I believe my accumulated skills and knowledge of digital communications will allow me to effectively market your product to the masses, and also attract new engagements as well.

Thank you for the opportunity to prove that I will be a great asset to the company.  When coming across the job posting, I knew that this position was for me. However, I struggled with figuring out a way to connect my experience with what this role entails. As a recent college graduate, I have learned valuable things both on and off campus. In my career the most value I obtained was in the “real world”. The real world is where, us students, apply our heavily studied knowledge while gained in school to everyday experiences. Still, without the knowledge gained in school I would not be prepared for some of these experiences.

Through my internship with Northwestern Mutual, I have learned how to sell myself. As a financial advisor, clients are choosing you as a lifelong partner that will help to achieve much needed financial goals. Who cares about the product? The product is great but, that’s not what gets you clients. I understood quickly that I needed to be knowledgable in order to gain trust,  persistent in order to create relationships, and patient in order to close the deal.

I always considered myself a good salesman; but I never understood how important it was to understand that those traits are what will make me great! I have also learned the power of failure. In my internship, I am starting my own business. No one is paying me by the hour so everything I make, I make myself. With this being said, I have learned that when you are starting a business from scratch, these failures are what help business owners to become great.

In twenty two years I have never stressed this much over a job. Yet, that’s just it. I am not doing a job, I am building a career and creating a lifestyle for myself that many will not be able to do and I love it! I am a motivated, ambitious, and intelligent. I am self- starter who is open to feedback and new ideas. I understand people and I do believe that this a career for me. Thank you for this opportunity and I hope that I can be a asset to the team.

Dear Hiring Manager,

I am very interested in a job at your company. Throughout my college experience and life, I have had many jobs, and learned many life lessons that I know will help me succeed at the job. Being a student athlete helped me learn how to manage my time between school work and playing successfully on a team that required attention. I was also able to manage a job while going to school and playing a sport. My classes have also helped me learn skills I need for a job like this one.

Over the past two months I have interned at the Baruch College Athletics Department. I am the assistant to the Sports Information Director. I oversaw and managed a photo project that has been archived for years but will finally come out thanks to me. I also help create and organize the end of year report that went will be going out nationally to other schools, as well to our Alumni. I have written many articles for the Baruch Athletics website. Working in this office has given me the hands-on experience, and the skills learned in my classes and in life I know this will all help me in the work field.

Thank you for taking your time to and considering me for this position
