I couldnt help but write about this youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdEtYkUuzcY I came across while searching for female crime videos. This video is about Iraq women in prison and I found it very interesting that none of these women knew why they got arrested. Many of them want to plead their cases but they are not given the opportunity to do so. They also keep saying that their husbands were accused of terrorism but they were the ones who got arrested. Also, what shocked me was that their children were also in the jail cells with them. They are raising these children in a jail. I fear that once these children are released with the mothers, how will they act in society? It will be a very difficult transition for them to get accustomed to everyday life when all they ever knew was life behind bars.
In class we were talking about how females who commit crimes are viewed as monsters because in the U.S. we view women as nurturing and gentle human beings as opposed to men who are viewed as rough and daring and are capable of a killing; in Iraq its the very opposite. With terrorism currently taking place around the world, it shocks me that these terrorists are running freely and commiting mass murders, but their wives are the ones being captured and put to serve in jail without a reason. Even as the women were pleading to Iraqs Vice President, it seemed to me that he couldnt care less about what the women wanted or had to say. The women were crying and wanted help, but he wanted them to be quiet and didnt want to hear it. If the Vice President of Iraq doesnt care, why would the men in their society care? I think its very messed up for these women to live that kind of life. It seems to me that in Iraq, the innocent are in jail and the monsters are running around town free.
This is horrible, but in a way I am not surprised that this is happening to the women in the middle east. I am from Pakistan and I have seen such horrible things happen to women. This video is very sad, especially for the women who are raising kids in jail. I think the vice president already knows what is going on and sadly he cant do anything about it. It is very sad that the women have to suffer because of their husbands which are running around free and wild. Sometimes the government just needs to lock up anyone for the crime to keep the public quiet; to show the community that the public is in good hands. In this case they put the blame on the women. There are horrible crimes being committed in the name of terrorism all over the world.
This video really got me thinking about how women should really be more cautious as to whom they allow into their lives, homes, and around their children. One of the women in the video said something along the lines of her husband was accused of a crime and because of that she was sitting in jail also. I believe that every woman should be made aware that there are men out there that prey on the weak, and their specialty is to find weak and vulnerable women, and take advantage of them. There are a lot of women in vulnerable positions out there, a common scenario is someone with a few kids, and no husband, which leaves them financially burdened and without a male in the household which is very important, especially when raising children. Also there are many young girls out there (teenagers) who runaway from abusive households and end up in the streets seeking support. My point is that men look for girls in these kinds of situations, and befriend them, and even may being some kind of an intimate relationship with them. While the women think that they are being loved and taken care of, the men have other ulterior, sinister motives in mind. I can’t tell you how many stories I’ve seen of young girls being forced into prostitution, or being forced to sell drugs or commit other illicit acts, in the name of “love”. Women have to be extra cautious when it comes to these situations, because there are a lot wolves in sheep’s clothing just waiting to take advantage.
