CTL Tours: The Active Learning Repository

Online

The CTL’s Active Learning Strategies repository is a website full of descriptions of ready-to-go active learning techniques designed to be used in classes across the disciplines. In this repository you’ll find resources for collaborative problem solving, class discussions, debates, role playing, reflective activities, teaching with games, peer-to-peer instruction, and writing-to-learn. In this 1-hour workshop, CTL staff will give a tour of the Active Learning Repository and model ways to incorporate it into your courses. We will also discuss active learning strategies that may or may not be working in our classrooms, or ones that you’d like to try out.

CTL Conversations: How We Talk with Students about Information Literacy

Online

Misinformation campaigns online have become increasingly savvy at presenting themselves as legitimate and preying up readers’ emotional reactions to sensational material. In this 1-hour workshop, CTL staff members will discuss trends in how students process the news and will look at examples of some common ways that misleading or misinformative sources manifest false impressions of credibility.. Together, we will reflect on some strategies for communicating with students about sources and brainstorm approaches, activities, and tools that might work in fostering information literacy skills across all disciplines.
