Error!!!
Thesis: Extensive use of multitasking has a negative implication on one’s brain and leads to much less productivity.
Supporting Points: Doing multiple things at once in quick succession will overall take longer than doing them one at a time and will end up restricting the brainpower necessary to perform each task.
Multitasking, which is usually done under high levels of stress, causes short term memory loss.
Still a work in progress and may change over the week!

Once I fully review these sources and decide whether or not they are relevant to a correlation between multitasking on the Internet and loss of concentration on a particular task, I will find a few quotes and facts from The Shallows to go along with the topic and get this essay moving along!

Memory Gap
My fascination with The Shallows comes through with a quote on pg. 16, in which Carr “began worrying about his inability to perform to pay attention to one thing for more than a couple of minutes.” This came about as a result of how quickly people absorb information through the internet nowadays. Information comes in the form of snippets and abbreviations. There is so much information on this virtual network that most of it has to be condensed into a format simple enough for our brains to take in and comprehend. Any information that is presented in a borad and expansive format must be dissected and broken down until only the most important details are discovered. The Internet plays a quintessential role in shaping a person’s ability to devour and pick apart exactly what we look for and renounce everything that remains.
I find the final research paper to be EXTREMELY SIMILAR to the first essay that we did. It’s so similar that I cannot even begin to imagine how this paper will be unique and different from the first. As such, it’s very difficult to find a good topic to write about. As seen from the quote chosen above, I am considering doing a paper on how the Internet affects a person’s attention span and inability to concentrate on any one thing for more than a few moments. But again, I don’t know how I can write this essay without incorporating much from my first assignment. Is this topic too broad or too narrow? Is it a good enough topic to write about? I would really appreciate feedback from our shrewd Professor Smith and my astute classmates!

Shallows of Memory
Looking through The Shallows for quotes that relate to the role of digital media in memory and concentration impairment. Will update once I find those quotes.
