Ludcin’s – New Years Sacrifice

If…”lips only sing when they cannot kiss,” it may also be that poets only talk when they cannot sing. [T.S. Eliot]

By reading and analyzing this quote in the passage of New Years sacrifice. It had really got me thinking as what his quote is trying to bring out. Lips only sing when they cannot kiss … To me this part of the passage is saying poets have such a desire for there work they compare to not being able to be kissed by one. This had me once again connect this passage to love. Love can come in many shapes and forms. Poets have such love for their work they compare it to being kissed. It may also be that poets only talk when they cannot sing. My interpretation of this part would be they can express love in their own ways but don’t have to express it the way others would expect it to sound like which connect with ”they cannot sing”. Singing is a sign of happiness and fruitfulness and liveliness. Poets have work of their own kind and some of their work are not able to be sung. As a poet I feel you have to explore and bring out the worst and the best as we see through out the semester … king lear … metamorphosis … Bartleby .. not all of them have great endings or beginnings or plots to begin with. But yet they are novels people enjoy reading they dont have to be happy to be sung. This semester truly brought out so much within myself. I thought more into life … I actually went into depth within my inner being on what Professor polesny was saying all semester. I truly cannot thank him enough for making my first semester (first class) in Baruch a one I will remember for years to come. Thank you Professor Polesny.

Bartleby The Scrivener

I had read Melville book about Bartleby. I would like to focus on the topic more into depth as Bartleby did not want to do anything he didn’t want to do. We see people day by day being forced into many things in life … whether it is education … occupation .. religion (mostly). Bartleby can be seen to others as arrogant and nuisance. To me Bartleby is a sign of freedom and courageousness for his own being. Why should someone do something they do have a passion nor desire to do? I believe every person on this earth has free will and is and should be able to live however they want to live. Example, being I had known this friend of mine .. in love with this man who was simply a different race from her. Both madly in love and you can tell being in their own presence. The parents of the girl forbid her to see to man any further as they were brought up in 2 different traditional homes and races. That is not right. Bartleby stands up for free will and everyone should be able to have a say in what they want to pursue or desire in life.

Metamorphosis

I read Metamorphosis and to be truthfully honest … I was not pleased in regards to the reading it really upset me on how we can have such people in the world. Gregor, who I feel makes a wrong turn in his life, .  The way I thought of him was just a not nice person who didn’t have any remorse or care for anyone for himself , it was hard to believe that his sister .. his own fleshing blood had still loved him as a brother as there person he is to be.  I understood that he was still her brother, and he was still his parent’s child but, he had totally turned into an awful human being to help him survive. It seemed that he was basically no longer a human being and I could have understood entirely how it would have been really hard to treat him.  My idea of what Gregor was to look like only became more confirmed when they talked of him hiding under furniture. I grew so much to this reading that I truly despise people the way this character was behaving and how he can be so cruel. It’s disgusting. Literally a bug they compared him too. My emotions of Gregor can be shown below. Can see why its called metamorphosis.

Oroonoko

Oroonoko and Imoinda are the main characters that live in this strong and hurtful relationship.  It Starts as a beautiful relationship and ends in tragedy and nothing good coming out of it. Oroonoko is stuck in this idea where if Imionida is not with him she doesn’t deserve to live happy with anyone else. Me personally I feel he gets obsessed and becomes a character of obsession  who grows an obsession over this love he won’t let go. He will only let death separate both of them. This is why his actions had no control that he killed the person he loves most. We can all learn from the plot of the story that love is something that needs to mutual and can never be rushed or better yet forced. Everyone in life goes through that period in life where they fall in love with someone and the person does not have mutual feelings back to the person. I myself have people come to me all the time in regards to situation like this and I simply explain to them love is something pure and you will not be able to find true love if you simply can’t be yourself. This semester professor had told me a lot and I pondered more into depth of the word ”love” and it is a very serious issue we have now in days where people fall in love for the wrong reasons. If I were Oroonoko I would have told their are plenty more fish in the sea and he should not be so attached to this one girl as they are many woman who can satisfy his needs the way Imoinda had done.

Don Quixote

In the story of Don Quixote there is a scene for the book where the master where Sancho Panzo asked his master what giants he is referring too. The master answer the ones you can see over there .. with the huge arms , some of which are very nearly two leagues long. Sancho replies ‘’Now look your grace’’ ‘’What you see over there aren’t giants but windmills and what seems to be arms are just their sails, that go around in the wind and turn the milestone’’. This concept of what the master had replied to Sancho had me really thinking. Why are windmills in this scene being compared to monsters. Windmills we can look at various ways. One a windmill can supply energy which would take away jobs and money from others to make a honest living. Windmills can also be used a scenario as to where being a life threat to animal life as well being a noise complaint for some living in the area. Windmills can also be found by some people unsightly. Even though this story was made century’s ago we can still look at windmills as a sign for today’s day an age monsters. They are many comparisions we can give in this scenario where they are things in this world that don’t seem to have any effect because .. hey its just a windmill what can be the negatives of having a windmill. Cars can be one thing , yes it helps transport everyone where they need to go from point A to point B. But cars and other automobile vehicle release fossil fuels and pollution which destroy the ozone layer as well as pollute the air we breathe in. I found this scene in the book very interesting and made me think more into depth on what the master what was bringing out in the book and to Sancho.

Frankenstein

As the professor has brought up the connections between recent readings regarding religion and love. Today I touched on some of the topics in those topics in the reading Frankenstein. We have a university student by the name of Victor Frankenstein who is attempting to do something no human being has ever done. To create a human being. One day His creation  ‘’the creation’’ asks victor the man who created him asks him to create a partner for himself. I feel the monster is sort of challenging the knowledge and ability of victor by demanding him to create an ‘’eve’’ for him as a retaliation of him thinking he can be a god and create human life in a way. I feel the monster is trying to point out the fact that history shows god created adam and eve and not just adam and therefore the monster challenges victor on his abilities to create human life. His creation is trying to say that you brought me into this world and since you claim yourself as god and obtain god’s knowledge and abilities it shouldn’t be a problem creating a partner for myself. I ask myself a question while researching and reading. What is the diffirence between god and adam and Frankenstein and the creation. I know it’s a very deep question and concept but I can give one example. For one when god created adam he gave him a partner to be with and was fully remorseful to adam to have LOVE in life and that god had all the caring for his creations. Frankenstein did not even consider giving his creation a partner when created. We can see here God has somewhat of a little consideration for his creations and Frankenstein had no passion or sympathy for his creation. Here we can also learn that Frankenstein was so obsessed by only proving to himself what no other person has done. Within the process I feel Frankenstein meddles with the boundaries of science and defines the concepts of life and death. Point taken from this is that one day when we all have love and children we should put all work and care into our children’s well being. We also learn the consequences from Frankenstein’s selfishness where the monster wasn’t able to  cherish the real beauty of life because he was not able to love someone of his own kind.

“Remember, that i am thy creature; i ought to be thy Adam; but i am rather the fallen angel. whom thou drivest from joy for no misdeed” (page 77-8)

Just a side note to the class. We can see from this scenario of the reading Frankenstein where love is all the creation wanted from his creator. Professor had stated earlier in the semester ‘’if you don’t find love’’ it is questionable if you had lived life in the way it was created to be. This scene from the reading showed truth to what professor was stating.

Song of Myself

I would like to mostly to talk about the idea of grass and what does it stand for? And ask the question … what is grass? Grass I feel is a sign of giving to the world after death. As we all know when the day comes of our death people normally think we don’t give back after death .. and it is impossible to give back when your dead. Not necessarily , There is a very creative way of thinking about this … Grass can be a sign and example of many things. To us adults we visualize grass as according to basic knowledge. We know for example humans once they decompose they help source the growing of grass. Grass can also be helpful in many ways of a source of natural grains and even medicine. In other perspectives now we look at the visual from a young child’s eye of grass. Grass in a ordinary child is playful , running around, and most of all fun. Kids can play in the grass all day and not even worry about what is under the grass at that very moment.

King Lear

The scene that caught my attention was first when he put the children into a weird and difficult.Situation as to declare the love they have for their father. I feel a parent of any kind should.Never put there children into any situation as to where they have to declare there love and Affection for there parents and to express all the things they do for them and make them Believe they are the favriote of the children. As the second daughter speaks she makesHerself feel more superior and better then the other sister which in my opinon isn’t what a Family should do a family is suppose to bond with one another .. learn from one another not Point out each other’s flaws and mishaps. You can also see once the 2nddaughter concludedHer words of love for her father you can see the father explicity violates her in a sexual matter. How can you respect someone that treats there daughters like this yet alone puts his children In a predicament where they have to go against one another and make family come apart Rather come together. As he calls up the third daughter he plays a sort of favoritism for her As he introduces her name before her choice of words for her father. As the 3rddaughter Stands for what she believes as to what love and obey for her father really is you can see She is the true daughter of 3 as she expresses the way she obeys him by saying she loves And honors him. This scene showed me that family is one of most important in life. Family Is all about being together and looking out for one another and never put each other down Like king Lear had put on his daughters.
