Intro

The Web in the past few years has become much more opened to users, who now are able to play a much more active role in the virtual world than at its beginning. This freedom resulted with people sharing much more information regarding their lives and opinions. This kind of information presents value to many companies and organizations which are willing to know as much as possible about those millions of people using the internet. For such companies as Facebook or Google the collected information from the users of their services allows them to exist and prosper. Governments do the same thing but not in the name of economic gain but state and public security. Data brokers search for information regarding certain people and sell them later to their clients. Even random stalkers are able to research people and know more about them without even asking one question to the person being researched. And all this is being possible because more and more people are suing the internet and are sharing information about themselves via social media and other websites. The easiness of sharing private information nowadays and the lack of certainty in which directions all this is going some are concerned if users of Web 2.0 are aware of the price they have to pay for using many online services and are they willing to control more their actions on the internet or are they willing to give up everything in return for convenience. Given the responses of ten members of the Baruch College community people are mindful of what happens to information they share through the use of the internet and even though many agree to give up some part of their privacy, each person has established some hard rules of Awhen it is fine to do it and for what. Even though technology has changed some parts of their life and core of their own personhood stays the same and helps them set a reasonable decisions about their use of Web 2.0.
