Teachable Moment/Abstract:

I plan to tell a story about letting myself step into a world of trying new things and staying open-minded to new experiences. I hope the readers will be influenced to get out of their comfort zones and try something they’ve even thought about doing but never did. My story is based n those similar circumstances but in my case, I took it a step further and actually challenged myself to try something new. In my story, I was blessed with the opportunity to join the football team during my sophomore year of high school but was hesitant at first to go through with joining such a dangerous sport and it also being the first sports team I would ever join in school. This was only possible. After all, I used to stay after school and lift weights with the football players because many of them were my friends and the coach allowed outsiders to join in on the weightlifting but nothing more. I was then approached by the football coach soon after and allowed to join because he said he liked how I always came by to work out even when I wasn’t even on the team. He said I even came to a few more practices than some of his actual players. I had given it some thought that day and really questioned if I wanted to go through with accepting his invitation. After thinking it over I decided to go through with joining the team and I am thankful every day that I did because I was able to learn so many life skills and discipline from playing football and built bonds that wouldn’t break on and off the field.
