- In the first paragraph, share two quotes that struck you from Lorde’s essay. Transcribe the quotes, and then explain what they mean to you. Try to figure out what about them is powerful, strange, interesting, or important to you.
Two quotes that struck me from Lorde’s essay were:
1.“I have come to believe over and over again that what is most important to me must be spoken, made verbal and shared, even at the risk of having it bruised or misunderstood”
2.“But within those three weeks, I was forced to look upon myself and my living with a harsh and urgent clarity that has left me still shaken but much stronger.”
- 1. To me, this quote means that if you really believe in something, don’t be afraid to speak up about it at all no matter what. Even if you have the chance of getting hurt or looked at differently. This quote is very important to me because most people are afraid of saying what they actually think because they’re afraid of what others might say or do to them.
- This quote to me means she looks at things differently but she now is much smarter and stronger than before. This quote is powerful to me because it shows her growth when she went through a challenge.
- In the second paragraph, make a declaration, plan, or goal based off at least one of the quotes you chose. How can you apply this idea/knowledge to your own life? How can you personally enact something based on this quote? What did you come to Baruch to do that you never did before?
One of my goals is to always keep pushing and persevere through challenges no matter how hard they are. I will get further in life if I can apply this in all areas. Especially in business, because it is a hard field that a lot of people give up before they even begin. Business requires determination and laser focus. I came to Baruch to become a successful entrepreneur and build wealth.
