Vietnamese Students Association

Vietnamese Students Association

On August 31, I attended my first general interest meeting for the Vietnamese Students Association. What had struck me the most was the surplus amount of people and those who had taken interest in this organization. There was an icebreaker that allowed people to be more comfortable with the members. One person read out the orders such as taking a selfie with your group and we had to do so in order to win. After the icebreaker, the members of the club began to pass out number strips to break us into groups. Once we were broken into subgroups, everyone went around the circle sharing their names and an action that described themselves. I was the last person to do so and thus had to repeat all the names and actions. Afterwards, we took our seats and traditional Vietnamese sandwiches were passed out. My friends and I shared a sandwich and for the remainder of the club we introduced ourselves to the leaders of the club. Once the club ended, I spoke to the leaders about other events that I could participate in and they gave me a full itinerary for the month. I signed out afterwards and gave them my contact information. Later that night, one of the members messaged me and voiced his gratitude for me attending the event. We ended our discussion with my appreciation for such an act and this allowed me to get a sense of the friendly environment this organization displayed. Despite not being of Vietnamese lineage, I found it amazing how everyone were able to adjust so easily and form a community.
