Entering a new school can force you to encounter a lot of challenges, especially college. College is considered a new chapter within life, where opportunity presents itself and you have to learn to take them by the horns and go with it. But I believe the one struggle that college causes, specifically commuter colleges, is being able to make friends. People have already established who they are and the idea of whether you will benefit them in the future is usually what they are concerned with. So the best way, I believe, to make friends and still establish some sort of network is to join a club.
Baruch College is known for its clubs. There are at least 100 hundred clubs within the college, that highlights diversity, individuality, and friendship. Each club has a special quality about them that can help you learn about who you are and how to make a great experience out of college.
On October 3rd, 2013, Baruch College held its Club Fair. In the basketball gym, there were at least fifty clubs lined up, ready to answer questions and welcome new members. It was a different atmosphere then one that is so common in a commuter school, less of the brushing past you and more of cheerful smiles. There were clubs such as GLASS the support of gay, lesbian and straight community, the Caribbean Club, South Asian Club, and etc. Each club held a special value that allows everyone to feel like they are in a team but yet highlight their individuality.
The Club Fair highlighted the diversity and openness that Baruch entails. It was a great event due to the fact that so many freshmen did come as well as I, myself, signed up for several clubs as well. Overall the club fair was a success, and if you didn’t go, you missed out. I would recommend, that for anyone that is looking to make friends and establish some sort of connection within this school, to join a club because in the end its worth all the bonds, friendship and connections you made in the future.
