Construction of Childhood and Adolescence

February 10, 2011 by Joseph Randazzo

I believe childhood has been in existence since the development of the idea of the adult. The two go hand in hand with each other. It is like there can’t be day without night and there can’t be right without wrong. Child hood is a very broad term. There can be the fun part, the lesson learned part, the sad part, the social part, and so on. So I think it is safe to say that there is no one status of what child hood is today but we can define the purpose of childhood. Childhood is what shapes every individual into the person they become. According to the science daily, “Experiences between birth and age 5 matter significantly to children’s long-term emotional and psychological health…” They also go on to give an example of how childhood television shows affect a child’s performance by the fourth grade. The Centers for Disease and Control, a government organization, says “ ..certain experiences are major risk factors for the leading cause of illness and death…”
