Throughout ones education I believe that most of what you learn is repeated and just become a little more descriptive and complicated as you get older. It is important for the families to support a childs emergent literacy and numercy skills in order for them to grasp further concepts that are taught in school. The experience and influences that surround a child is important to their development and how fast they may learn something. The more a child is read to at a younger age, the more likely they will read compared to a child who are read to less often. As you get older and start learning new material you vaguely remember the information you learn as a child. I know personally I barely remember much of what I was taught in elementary and junior high school. I agree that the top down processing causes children to lose focus and keeps them from thriving. As a child no one enjoys going to school or even has motivation to learn. We look at education as something that is forced upon us when we are younger. This is because school is so predictable, same classes and teachers for long hours & five times a week. I believe this is a lot of information for a developing mind of a young child to actual grasp fully. The initiation reply sequence is the common aspect of education when teaching young children. I think it is more effective to let children be more interactive when learning something new. The more interest a child has to start with, then the more likely they will want to learn the material. Education in the United States approach teaching and education in a different way than other countries. A good way that other countries use to approach education is through playword practice. This involves more interactive and involves enacting different works of children’s literature. The proper and organized structure of school tends to make children less likely to be interested in learning. Aside from a structural point of view, another barrier to school success is disabilities. Some childen may have difficulties learning in school due to various disabilities of their mind that cause them to take longer to learm than others. As I been discussing children have little or sometimes no motivation to learn. Children are expected to pay attention and grasp material to master certain things that are difficult to learn. It is key and very important for children to have academic motivation. Just like any other part of life the way someone chooses to learn and motivate themselves differs for each person. The culture style of schooling affects heavily on the development of a child. To improve our current education system we should change the approach of teaching and begin to find ways to keep the interest of the student enough to have them be motivated to learn new things.
