Chapter 13

This chapter discussed issues that had to deal with war and poverty that reflected the education of children. An attempt was made to end poverty in the education system but did not work. I found it interesting that in the last class discussed we talked about Sesame Street which was a TV show made for preschool educational proposes. However in this chapter it says that the TV show Sesame Street was big factor to end poverty. This chapter also touched up on the SAT’s and I do not agree with one of the points that Joel Spring wrote about the purpose of the SAT. He said that it was a test to give everyone a fair opportunity to go to college only if they passed the test. What about the students that did not pass the test? Would they not be giving and opportunity to go to college just because they did not perform well on the test? Wouldn’t this issue leave children behind? So in this case the act of No Child Left Behind did not keep its word. I do not think that School and the Military service should be seen as one. Yes, its important for children to learn about the Military but they should not only focus on that issue because they are plenty of important issues around the world.
