One thing I felt after reading this chapter was that there was not enough emphasis placed on Brown vs the Board of Education. I remember when learning about the Civil Rights Movement how vital this decision was in the progression of the movement. Since this book is concentrated in Education I thought Brown vs the Board of Education would have been a bigger part of this section. I think it is very important for us to understand how difficult it was for the African American students who lived during this era and who dealt with the transition of integrating the blacks into the white shcools. They were not very welcome and it was no secret. The racial injustice in America at this time was something extremely serious visible but it took awhile for things to actually be done about it. Of course to this day there are still very unjust things going on but they are not occuring as often as they did during this period. I was not actually not aware of the impact that Martin Luther King had on education since most people only remember Martin Luther King for the bus boycotts. The idea of Asian Americans as the model minority was confusing as we saw that they also faced a lot of discrimination not only during this period but throughout a large part of American history. One thing I still cannot understand about the American Education system is how they do not embrace other cultures, originally I thought America prided itself on being a nation that everyone could come to but most their ideals of what the superior race and cultural is comes from the English colonists.

this is an example of what I was talking about for how difficult of a time the African American students had in becoming integrated into the “white” schools.
