My participation in the Community Service Project definitely encouraged my group members and I to draw upon the expertise of many faculty and staff. I think for our organization specifically, it would have been very hard to find out all the information we needed, and all the details about our program, without the help of the faculty and staff at Yeshivah of Flatbush. We have all definitely relied on the experiences of one of our group members, who is very familiar with the organization, to help make this project come together. My group members and I are extremely grateful to all the help we received from the High School, and the wonderful community service opportunities they were able to provide us with. In addition to this, our team’s collective efforts, and communication abilities really helped us work together efficiently. This specifically helped me in my other classes because it taught me how to work effectively in group projects and to use all the resources I have to the best of my abilities. Even though I have not yet went and actually participated in the community service that my group and I intend to volunteer at, I think learning so much about the organization definitely changed my understanding of community service. Just the idea of participating in an organization where we can help those with special needs, and make the feel a part of something bigger, as well as mentoring students just like us who want help understanding the college process is an immense honor. I think researching this organization and looking into all it has to offer really encouraged me into pursuing more community service projects in the near future. In the next 3 years I see myself continuing to pursue my dream to become a Dentist, and hopefully, I will already be applying to dental schools. Most importantly, I want to challenge myself academically and try to help the world as much as I possibly can.

It is nice that volunteering for your organization makes you feel that you are part of something bigger.
Contrary to popular majors, it is very interesting to see how you are differentiating yourself from the “business-centric” crowd in Baruch. That, in itself, says a lot about you and your character. Your head-strong nature and desire and drive to differentiate yourself amongst others is a remarkable feature and something you should cherish, especially in the years to come. I wish you all the best in your future endeavors, Elana.
Your future sounds pretty planned out and interesting. I wish you the best. I notice how there aren’t really any science/medical-focused clubs in Baruch. Maybe think about starting one that connects members to internships and things of that matter pertaining to the medical field.
I agree that the process of finding our companies have improved our research and communication skills. I am also interested in the sciences here at Baruch, maybe we cant start that club together^ 🙂
