“The Medium is the Massage”

In the reading “The Medium is the Massage” by Marshall McLuhan, it was very interested and eye opening to me, since it talked about a lot of realities that are happening now around us, and they’ve been going on for many years. Specially how the medium is changing our system and ourselves and the way we think, perceive and react to information and situations in our daily life.

They passage that stands out to me was how “Too many people know too much about each other. Our new environment compels commitment and participation. We have become irrevocably involved with, and responsible for each other” (McLuhan, 24). This passage stands out to me because we are living in an era were the opinion of other is so important for us, were we think we cannot do things by ourselves, were we are always looking for approbation, or simple trying to do things to please others. It took me to question myself and analyzed myself in this aspect and realizing that yes opining of others and being with other is important but at the same time we always must work on ourselves and our own voice, I believe developing our own voice in this era it’s very important.

It also called my attention how our perception us things start changing since we are little, and our parents or teachers teach us the alphabet. How the way we receive and perceive the information will have an impact on us, that is not just the information itself, but the way is transmitted to us, that change the way we see, learned and perceived things.
