Homer UFO Animation
Animation Vid Watching HW
- Fantasmahorie is a interesting cartoon, but what bothered me was the stiffness of the characters, but I guess it would make sense since they are stick figures moving in a robotic, but bit smooth way.
- Steamboat Willie is also another interesting animation. I like how in sync the sound is with the animation, but in terms of how the animals were treated, it doesn’t seem appropriate for younger children. Overall, it’s still a nice animation, especially the famous Mickey Mouse whistling.
- Fantasia is cute to see different characters or stories, but I’m still lost like does Fantasia have multiple films? I like the color schemes each scene because it matches the mood of what is happening.
- Astro boy is another cute anime to see again, but its also interesting because it is in black and white which I love because it gives the old vibes. It also brought back a lot of my childhood seeing it in my grandma’s house when I was younger, but in color and I’ve never really watched it.

The Medium is the Massage thoughts
After reading Mcluhan’s “The Medium is the Massage,” it’s interesting how he wrote this. Throughout, the reading I felt so confused, like in the beginning like the page of YOU, the second question, ” Have you contemplated suicide?” was the craziest blow of woah to me and then when he suddenly said ” the older, traditional ideas of private, isolated thoughts and actions…” (6) gave off some type of control over me like old values being overpowered the smaller, like a monarchy. Through the images it is also interesting like seeing the big eye ball. Throughout the vibes were giving like 1984, like big brother having control over people. But it is interesting how there was a lot of words of how technology changes or his words “electric information” and how it may impact someone or something.

Project #2

The Art of Noise / The World of Sounds as Art
What I like that Russolo did is the noise that was bolded in the reading, but I what found interesting and never really considered that noises and any noises can be composed into music or into anything that would be considered a form of art. I also like and in connection to, for the type of silence like there is nature silence, but compare to a room silence it so different. I’m never used to silence because i’m use to noises.
————-
I found a interesting guy, Takayuki Nakano, and one of his sound is called comes sabotag. This audio is interesting because it is 40 mins long and it is just him playing the drums while he tells some kind of story, saying random things that don’t make sense maybe a poetry and even making random noises. Not sure if I like it, but it is indeed a interesting way of combining someone speaking and having music or beats from the drums to go with his dramatic effects.

Artist Assignment #2: Listening & Describing
The sound i’ve never heard before and ever get use to is just the silence. I’m so use to white noises like the air purifier running 24/7 in my room and when it stops, I get this most uncomfortable feeling and it feels like my ears just I don’t know how to describe it, but my ears start to hear ringing noises or have wind noises. It feels like the silence is putting pressure into my ears. It’s so awkward to everytime I hear it, so I always automatically block those uncomfortable noises with my airpods and music.

Made My First Audio

Remix Manifesto
The remixes that were made in the documentary were interesting and I never really heard of them before. It is also interesting how copyright was back then and even then copyright is still a thing for how songs should be in videos on YouTube. However, it brings questions on how DJing works and even EDM because they make beats with lyrics from songs to make their remixes to promote to others. I agree that “the past always tries to control the future,” but only through how the company reacts to how music is being downloaded and reused for copyright. Even then, it’s more of how the person is using the music. Some reuse music and name it their own, even though it is from another artist. Which is why it is hard to give freedom in this case. For example, if you put yourself in their shoes, you made a song and someone else just took it and remixed it, but put their name and gave you no credit, then I would sue. I guess with credit, it would be best to know that at least you had some acknowledgment. However, I wouldn’t stop someone from using songs to create their own remixes too. I think it’s pretty unique as well and it even adds a touch to the music made and have it to be heard and many different ways for many other people to enjoy it. I still feel unsure of how to feel about it, it’s a mixture of how something is considered “copyright”.

3. Automation by Lev Manovich
After reading Chapter 1 of The Language of New Media by Lev Manovich, I found the third of the five principles of new media outstanding. As Manovich said, all five principles depend on each other but are arranged logically. From numerical representation to modularity, automation made me understand how games are made, “Almost every commercial game included a component called an “AI engine,” which stands for the part of the game’s computer code that controls its characters–car drivers in a car race simulation, enemy forces in a strategy game such as Command and Conquer, single attackers in first-person shooters such as Quake ” (Manovich, 33). As a gamer, I’ve always wondered how someone can program all the movements a character can make, from attacking to even walking. All it takes is codes that we make for an AI engine, and it will have the characters do human functionalities. Aside from gaming functionalities, we use automation to automate searches that we put, “ Finally, in what may be the most familiar experience of automated media generation, many web sites automatically generate Web pages on the fly when the user reaches the site. They assemble the information from databases and format it using generic templates and scripts,” (Manovich, 32). Automation comes from the first two principles of new media, numerical representation and modularity and without them, automation to even AI engines would not be here. I personally never knew how much coding, maths, quantitative work there is to have a photograph, films and cinema to come out the way they are. However, I do find it interesting how with the five principles that is how new media came to be.
