Animation Response

Overall, I thought these animations were fairly interesting and it was neat to see the evolution and uncover the origins and backstory to animations I recognize to this day. Firstly, the earlier animations were not that intriguing to me. I understand it is where it all started but I think since we have come so far with technology, it is not really fascinating to see the discovery of stop motion type animations. I did think the subway one was appealing though, art that exists so publicly is an interesting concept. I did not enjoy the Op Hop by Pierre Hébert, I felt the visuals were anxiety inducing and the audio itself was overwhelming. I did enjoy the short film Rejected. This one felt so familiar and then once I remembered it reminded me a lot of the old YouTube video Salad Fingers. I guess the two are unrelated but the animation style, the unsettling humor, and the mentioning of spoons in both videos feels uncanny to me. I thought that style of animation is interesting and almost always creepy. I also really enjoyed the Logorama animation. The animation style in this one reminds me of old games I used to play on my computer, the way it was done overall reminded me of a video game. I also think the idea behind it was cool, taking different logos and giving them a story. The one following that, Alien Afterlife, I also thought was really interesting. This one felt very hallucinogenic and almost frightening. I think it is a really cool concept though and artistically the colors and visuals were nice to see. I do think it is really interesting to see how we have evolved through animation. This lecture made me think about how much animated content I have consumed without even realizing.
