I better get off the internet

I was browsing message boards, and one of the topics was titled “If you have finals in the future, set this as your homepage” with that link. In the link is a picture that says “Oh no you don’t. You have things to do. Get off the internet.” I thought it was clever and I connected to it because I procrastinate a lot. Procrastination can be a big problem for some, and the consequences can be worse during the week of finals. In a broader perspective, the picture reminds me of how I waste too much time on the internet instead of doing other things that I need to do. After all, I was surfing the internet instead of doing this assignment and other assigned reading or group work. It’s a nice idea, and I see what the person was thinking. And while some people wouldn’t care or others may need to use the internet for research or email, it’s still nice to be reminded about the issue or read about the attempt at a solution. It’s good to know other people know we procrastinate and we should be careful about it. Of course, it could be a fun suggestion to poke at the issue and not something to be taken seriously, but I liked it. Calling this the best thing recently is too extreme, but it stood out to me in a good way and it is a bit thought provoking.

I think everyone struggles with procrastination, at least to a certain degree. I am a pro, honestly, like if I were to set that as my desktop it wouldn’t even faze me. I’d just pretend it wasn’t there. It’s always good to have a reminder to get offline and actually be productive, good post!
Rather than being overly serious, I found the message to be amusing. The words, “Oh no you don’t,” removed the gravity of the message for me. It had me smiling for a while because that’s a rather light way to tell someone to get off the internet and concentrate on more important work.
Procrastination requires will power to overcome. It really comes down to careful organization and dedication to work towards that goal. Let’s hope we can all do that now and in the future.
I agree with Gen on this one. I definitely got a laugh out of the message but at the same time it does serve it’s purpose as a reminder that you better get to work. I would definitely consider making this my homepage, especially during finals. With so many things to distract us, from cell phones, to television, to twitter, tumblr, Instagram, Facebook, etc, it’s hard to focus on one thing. We’re a generation of multi-taskers, which isn’t always a good thing. Thank you for sharing this!
I like this idea. During fall midterms last year, I had a desktop background with much the same message, which was more effective for me as I did much more than just browse the internet when I would procrastinate.
