I really liked Robyn’s story about her dad’s car invention. I’m not surprised that she won the contest, with 27.2% of the vote! I found the story particularly interesting because it was relatable and authentic. A believable story that makes me think I know that feeling is a story I like to hear.Robyn discusses themes that I, as a daughter, can relate to. She explains how she and her siblings have heard their father tell his story countless times, despite the fact that their dad “really thinks they don’t know the story.” The experience of hearing a proud father tell a story over and over again is one I think many people can relate to. I like how she lets her dad narrate the majority of the story; it makes the story more authentic and real. I also like that her story had a practical lesson at the end: if you put your mind to something, you will succeed. Most importantly, her story was clear and easy to follow. If you try telling a story in a choppy, unclear manner that is hard to follow, you will lose your audience almost immediately.

It’s interesting that we both chose the same story, but took something different out of it. Both of us felt that it was a relatable story but for different reasons. I really like your reasoning though because I feel as if my dad has told me certain stories over and over again so it was cool to get a different point of view about the story. I agree with your point about letting the dad narrate as well, it does make it more genuine.
I know what you mean about choppy stories being hard to follow. I hope my little sister never gets a hold of this blog, because she will be very insulted to read that i think she is a terrible story teller. Its not that she doesnt have great stories, eighth grade politics are a lot of fun to hear abou. But when they dont have a natural flow, stories can be super frustrating to try and follow, which is why i really agree with your point.
Chaya, I too chose the same story. I like the story the best for very similar reasons. I think the greatest strength of Robyn’s Dad’s story is how relatable it is. I think we all have grandparents or fathers who are just like Robyn’s Dad. Maybe not exactly the same, but with similar quirks that make them unique. It’s these quirks that we miss most when our loved ones are gone and its these quirks that we remember most vividly. Robyn’s Dad’s story was very personable and it captured a sense of nostalgia of Robyn’s childhood.
