A new position in government
For my audio essay project, I plan to ask some serious questions about the upcoming presidential election. And the point i plan to highlight is that most people have no idea why they’re voting for a specific candidate, or even what positions that candidate holds on many matters.
I have invented a new position, called Executive Vice President, or the presidents left hand man. He is being interviewed on my radio show about his position and what his job will be. Granted, it is a little ridiculous, but i hope that it will be funny as well as thought provoking. I hope people consider the deeper points i am trying to make even though i dont plan to explicitly state them in the interest of keeping the tone light.
I will use GarageBand to edit the interview and put in background noises and make the voices of callers sound a little different.
My only concern is that it should make sense and not be confusing to the listener.

What a great idea! At first I was wondering how you’d get people to open up about something so personal, but then when you said you’d ask your family it made more sense. One question though: how will this tie to a larger theme? Is your point that nobody’s perfect, or is this just for the pure entertainment value? Is this going to give the listeners insight into the kind of people your family members are, or are the anecdotes irrelevant to the personalities of the storytellers? I’m just curious how you’ll frame it to tie it all together.
This could make for a really enjoyable Audio Essay. I also think that asking family is a great idea because you will get genuine and real stories. But just like Pessia, I am wondering what the message of the piece will be. Message or no message, it will be entertaining no matter what, because come on, who doesn’t like laughing at another person. But maybe the stories will connect somehow and you can try to get a message out of them to connect them, even if it is a simple one.
Ok, so after much consideration, I decided to totally change my idea. Dont worry, I dont think you guys will have to comment again! Im going to edit it and you can check it out a little later
I think this could be a very funny audio project because so many people are just influenced into voting for someone without knowing the true issues. In your project, I think the best parts will be those moments of silence or “ummm”‘s from the people you’re interviewing because it will show how uneducated many people are about political issues. The new position you have invented seems like it could be an interesting idea but I was just wondering how it will tie into your overall message.
