Worst Day Ever
Everyone’s had one of those days where EVERYTHING seems to be going wrong. First you wake up late, then you miss breakfast, and finally you step in some gum, etc., etc. It’s only natural that people have these days so for my audio project I wanted to interview people asking them to describe the worst day they’ve ever had in their life. Then, more importantly, I will ask them how they dealt with it and/or what could have made their day better. I was thinking of interviewing friends at first, then branching out to other students and maybe even faculty at Baruch based on the responses and material I get. I can use my phone to record the audio then use Garageband on my computer to edit the audio and add in other effects for the broadcast, so I already have everything I need. I was thinking of starting off the broadcast with me doing a small introduction about bad days, then include the responses I get, then include commentary on any connections or greater message I (hopefully) receive from the responses. Hopefully, I can try and include some humor and heartfelt sentiments in my broadcast to make it interesting because I know that those are two things that always interest me when I am listening to something.

I hope people can remember their worst days in enough detail. I know that whenever I’ve had a bad day I can list everything that’s gone wrong, but I tend to forget it soon after. Also, I’m not sure how many people you plan on asking, but I’m just worried that each response will be very long. First they’ll have to say everything that was bad about their day and then analyze their reactions to it. I think you can either have a few people who go into depth or a larger group who answers a more general question, like only about what their worst day was. If you can incorporate it all into a few minutes though, I think it’s a fascinating topic and says a lot about human nature. Plus you could probably use some awesome sound effects as they describe their terrible days.
I think this is a really interesting idea. People always remember everything bad that happens to them so I think that you will have a lot of good stuff in your responses. Since you will get such detail, I don’t know how many people you can actually ask in the time allowed. Hopefully you can get enough responses to make a connection. The tone of the piece could go in a lot of directions though. You could get a lot of first world problem type of responses, but you could also get some serious ones about death and stuff so I guess it depends on the responses you get. And from there you can choose the music and sound effects to go along with it to strengthen the feel of your Audio-Essay.
I think it might be better if you would talk to one person about their worst day. They could say everything that happened, and then you could ask them questions about it and make it deeper. Like maybe the reason he got so angry when he missed the bus was because he just got into a really bad fight with his mom. Or maybe its because he was embarrassed about what happened last night when something really funny happened. Things usually have a deeper reason behind, and it might be interesting to see how that pans out.
