This clip fits in with displacement because it shows how someone with a minimum wage can have a hard time living a life which they do not necessarily fit in. Hayley Smith, the daughter, tries to live off without her parent with minimum wage and she finds it hard because it is not enough to get by so she still lives with her parent.  This shows displacement because, in a society where the minimum wage is $15, it is still difficult for people who can barely pay for their rent especially living in New York. After the dad, Stan Smith refuses to believe that his daughter cannot live off by a certain amount of money, he goes out and experiences it himself. Thus, realizing he was wrong.

The clip is from a deleted scene from Marvel’s The Avengers.  It shows Steve Rogers aka Captain America roaming New York City after being frozen in ice for almost a century under water.

This shows Rogers having to cope with the city he knew, now being one that is completely different.  Where there are cell phones, new cars and giant skyscrapers.  This and having to move on from those he knew and loved due to the time he was in ice.

The social network is a movie about the creation of facebook and how Mark Zuckerberg dealt with cease and desist lawsuits for stealing the idea from his classmates.

In the beginning of the movie, we quickly see how Mark is in a place he does not belong. He is at a bar with a girl he cannot talk to. Mark is also terrible at socializing and we can see how he tries to be witty and funny but fails and offends his friend. The scene shows how a nerd goes out of his bubble and explores something new like talking to a girl at a bar.

This video shows how Rachel from friends feels displaced because she escaped her wedding and now is struggling to get accustomed to the normal working people life because she was always surrounded by riches and luxuries. it is seen how even though she moved away from her parents hold she is still using her credits cards which shows she is not fully independent from her parents. not having to work a day in her life has left her with not skills which is why she can’t find a job anywhere. Everywhere she goes to apply they harshly reject her because of her lack of experience and skills. This clearly relates to displacement because even she does not know how to live like her friends and is having trouble getting accustomed to “the real world “

In this small clip, we see that Dre [Jaden Smith] is being bullied by a group of Chinese kids for being “different” in terms of skin color and power level. Dre is trying to be friends with the violin girl, in which she is open to, but ends up being pushed around by the other boys. At the end of the scene, we see Dre laying on the floor alone, after his defeat. This relates to displacement because no one tries to help him as he is being bullied. In the end, no one helps him back on his feet and leaves him there.

In the Wizard of Oz, Dorthy’s house got carried from Kansas to the land of Oz. Dorthy wanted to go home because everything was so strange and unusual to her in the land of Oz. The munchkins in the land of Oz advised Dorthy to reach out to the wizard of Oz as he is the only one who can send her home. Dorthy goes on an adventure with her three friends to meet the wizard of Oz. This video relates to displacement because Dorthy in the video just realized that there are witched in this land and that was strange to her.

I feel like this clip represents displacement in popular culture because Nemo felt extremely uncomfortable in his tank in Sydney, Australia. Growing up in the sea, this tank is a different experience to him. When he meets the girl with braces, all hell breaks loose. Being physically tortured and feeling completely helpless, his new friends in the tank had helped him with his plan. Nemo, in turn doesn’t really feel out of his comfort zone with these random fish.

Losing his parents at a young age, Harry struggles to live with his aunt, uncle, and cousin. Harry’s aunt, uncle and cousin never accepted him into the family.  They treat him poorly.  Harry’s cousin consistently bully him . His aunt and uncle forces Harry to be absent when guest comes over to the house.  It is as if Harry’s existence does not matter.  In this scene, Harry is trying to leave the house. He is unable to stand the humiliation from the family. He cannot stand being mock.  He never called this place his home because he never felt the love and comfort of being there. Instead, he once said Hogwarts is his home. He has nowhere to go except to stay at Hogwarts.

For those that are not familiar with That 70’s show… Fez is the younger guy who has an accent and whom was sent to America from an unknown country. People always make fun of his culture and the way he speaks and Mr. Forman who is very patriotic and a veteran tries to teach him about America. Obviously he teaches him a very biased history of America. This shows displacement because Fez is displaced in his school although he does have friends, everyone finds him to be the weird one. Mr. Forman even calls him names like “Tarzan” which is not kind and racist. This show shows many different personalities and characters but to me Fez is special because he is comfortable as who he is even when people don’t think so.

In Marvel Studio’s movie Thor, protagonist Thor gets banished from his home realm for disobeying his father’s command. He is sent to Earth without his powers and faces hardship to adapt with the people of Earth.
