The two documentaries make me as unsure as ever of which direction to head in for my Digital Research paper (but also offer so much insight to the topics I am interested in exploring). We can see, from both, that the government is actively involved in our daily lives.

Originally, I looked forward to the possibility of exploring our rights as users on platforms. This idea was geared much towards the “What can (are we allowed to) be said/done?” “Up until what point?” “How are what “they” doing and saying going to affect me?” However, after having watched Citizenfour, I think it expanded my horizons. While I had already planned to work around the laws, rules, and regulations regarding the internet – I had not thought about the acts that may come up in the process and how they can have real-life examples that are so “familiar”. I also, before watching the documentaries, lacked an idea of how to introduce and connect these regulations.

From Snowden’s story, I got to see how the government is demanding control, and there is undoubtedly more to just this. It is totally easy to go about with our days and say, “who cares about privacy?” Like yes, I know someone is watching – but it’s not like “they” are interrupting my day-to-day life. Actually, “they” are! And, I may want to explore this “how”!
