In today’s world we use informal language when we type to family or friends and we don’t even realize that its occurring since it’s something we do continuously and its part of our daily lives that we have become accustomed to making these “mistakes”.

There are many platforms in which our way of communicating changes. For example when we text our friends and family we don’t use correct punctuation because we often want to communicate in a way that it is fast and effective. Often leading to wanting a fast response from the other person. Which leads to the creation of acronyms and the creation of how we use words to convey what type of feelings we are feeling such as irony, happiness, madness. On the other hand having the platform of Facetime we often don’t make these mistakes since we aren’t worried of punctuations and other ways of formal language since we are speaking to the person we often convey what we are trying to express through our facial expression, movements and voice. Depending on the platform we use will determine what type of language we use.

The way of how we communicate through text will give our audience a sense of how we act. Since depending on what type of audience you are communicating with, will determine what type of language one will use. Texting family and friends will be different than texting or emailing a manager because with our close relatives we know them and they know us meaning they know our sense of humor and how we communicate in the text language. On the other hand emailing a boss will determine if one gets the job.

When we communicate through digital technology we often go through discourse conventions such as not spelling a word correctly, punctuations and the use of acronyms. We often create these “mistakes” since we are trying to make a point across and expect to get a fast response with the way technology has evolved. We’re so used to how fast things have evolved that making these mistakes isn’t a problem which is often resolved by the auto correct installed in our devices and we often disregard it.

Making these mistakes go unnoticed, which we should pay close attention too. We can also pay attention to how others type in order to express themselves and see if they create discourse conventions.
