Thus far our group (group 2) has done a really good job (in my opinion) of managing the work and also dividing the work. we have employed the use of our group chat in order to ensure a cohesive collaborative process. Right now we are working on researching in order to gather sources as well as to make sure we actually understand the case before we begin writing. I am currently in charge of researching the decision of our case so in doing that I am responsible for fully understanding and also taking notes on the Shaw v Reno decision. This will account for a full section of our Wikipedia article and although this section already exists on the Wikipedia page it requires a lot of work so my job is to research the holes.
I definitely think we are making a lot of progress and so far all of the contributions from the group have been very thorough and positive. Our group as a whole is very enthusiastic and I personally really like our topic. I think the topic is very interesting and because of that, it makes the research process that much more engaging.
Going forward I think I will take a lot from the process of this project. First and foremost as I mentioned I am learning a great deal about the subject matter and it has definitely opened my eyes to new perspectives, especially since I am researching the decision (Majority and dissenting opinions). But more so than the subject this project has also opened my eyes to how I learn new technology and has taught me a lot about Wikipedia as a whole. The process of learning how to edit Wikipedia has been daunting and times have caused me to get frustrated and overwhelmed however, slowly I am getting the hang of it. This process is teaching me to have more patience when it comes to learning new skills. In terms of Wikipedia, I had no idea how much of a robust system it was made up of. Initially, I had just thought of Wikipedia as a place where anyone could make edits to the point where it was terribly unreliable. I now understand that I couldn’t have been more wrong and that there is most definitely a system in place that makes it a place where people can come together and share knowledge in a monitored setting. This makes for a really brilliant collaborative space that can provide a lot of great wisdom.
