Assignment for week of April 6

This statement “We are going down” stands out to many of us who does not have plan or do not know what next. This virus really showed us the problems that are still going on and how truly messed up our system is. Healthcare, employment and capitalism at it finest. Even times like this labor workers are given proper benefits for example Amazon. It also talk about the process of millions who are applying for unemployment and are struggling just ti file a claim. More than half of American how have lost or fewer hours their jobs who were labor workers. Yet there still rent and bills to pay for. Prices of foods are increasing as well. Yes, there still others who are able to work form home. But that just small portions. Government was slow to take actions causing thousands of business to loss their business within weeks. Local business are taking a economic toll where millions dollar business still booming in business. The fact that even when experts tells congress that certain amounts will not cover the small business cost. It seems like government in relying on banks or state government to solve the economic crisis. This whole thing following the things that caused the recession of 2008. Congress need to have clear plan to help pay workers. The article gives an plan that explain how if congress takes the correct steps everything might just work out. There to need to be middle ground for both the people and government. I think it rise the question how come even thou we have now doubled the numbers and yet not taking doing correct actions. Why stores like Starbucks and McDonald open? Why are we not in actual lock down? What about freezing the rent? Living in New York City comes with a price and if you do not have any source of income how will you survive. This article talks about a solution that does exist but it our capitalist system that prevent to put our people first.

Munsura, For some reason, the blog isn’t allow me to post a comment, so I am adding my comment to your original post.  You raise so many impossible questions here.  Perhaps this gives you some ideas about what direction your research should take?  I am particularly interested in the idea that this crisis is shining a light on some problems that already exist in our society.  I would love to hear more of your thoughts both about what we are learning about the costs of capitalism and the inequities of our society and about how you think we could best move forward.  Does the position described in this editorial, for example, sound like a good next step?

The Power of Social Distancing

I selected this text because I find interesting that we started to practice social distancing. The graph shows how the corona virus cases reduce by 40% in a day because of social distancing. We all are humans and being able to talk to people, meet people, and greet people have been part of our daily life. But now that we see people we like to stay away. And this is for good, to avoid the spread of corona virus. On the other hand, the practice of social distancing around this time bring a lot of question to my mind. The first question that it brings to me is what effects will it cause to our mental health in the future? I fear that this practice will have long-term negative impact to the way we interact with people. If the spreading of corona virus one day stops, I fear that people will still practice social distancing because of fear of the continuation of this virus. Maybe because of the fear of another virus, people just social distant themselves to avoid the spread or to avoid getting themselves infected by these kinds of viruses. Social distancing might also make us feel like being isolated is the safest place during all time, with virus or without virus. Another question that social distancing brings to my mind is if social distancing really stops the spreading of the virus, or are we just slowing down the inevitable. I am very curious about this since we know that the is not a cure for corona virus, and it is also very difficult to avoid. I fear that we are just slowing down something that will happen anyway, social distancing slowed down the spread but it can still reach our houses and our families. I have family that even without getting out of their homes got the virus.

Just for kids is a web page that explains serious situations in a simple way for kids to understand. My response to this article about Coronavirus is that it is important to keep kids updated on what is happening in our society right now. Sometimes parents feel their children do not know what is happening in our society or is not impacting them. However, let’s put ourselves in a child’s shoes, one day you are out the next day there is no school and you can’t go out because the country is under quarantine. I chose this comic because I am part of the people that read things because of attractiveness. As soon as I saw it was a comic, I started to read it. That also happens to kids, for kids to be interested in something, it needs to catch attention. Let’s say this comic is posted on a wall, rapidly kids will be interested to see what it says.

I chose this article because I have seen people that are not minding this and keep using money without thinking of the consequences. It is obvious that people will think it is only because of the Coronavirus but paper money has other bacterias we cannot see. Paper money is important because otherwise the economy will stop running or functioning. But, in my opinion, paper money is one of the main reasons the virus keeps spreading. There are still people that do not have a reason to go out, going out just because they feel the virus is not that strong. I think it will be a good idea, as the article said, to implement a disinfectant  of cash as they did in china. However, it is important to stop the exchange of money but also let’s keep in mind small and big companies are suffering financially in this situation.
