Throughout the reading you learn about the concept of Hallyu which means the spread of south Korean culture into Asia. This wave came in many different forms form tv shows to K-pop. This happened during a time where there was a economic crisis in Asia and Korean TV producers were offering the shows at a much cheaper price then anything else available at the time and it was at a higher quality at the time. So many people turned to these K-dramas and enjoyed them so much that at times people started to travel to South Korea in order to visit some of the locations that were depicted in the shows. I think the reason this music appeals to such vast amounts of people is because it is something that people are not used to it to seeing. Many music videos in America at least don’t have a lot of planned synchronized dancing so when they see something like that they are mesmerized by it. Then just the overall looks of the artists are liked by many and won’t mind the language barrier when listening to the music. The role of capitalism when it comes to K-pop stars is very important because they want to control everything about their stars. This was said in the article where chairmen Lee founder of S.M says “He could not go through the endless promoting and developing a new artist only to have it crash and burn around him.” So this process takes awhile and is very expensive so now he tends to control everything about the artist they contract. This was seen in the film and in the writings where they are restricted from going out or eating certain foods. They all so are trained about social media how to use and if they are caught using drugs that can mean the end for their careers. So they tend to be very strict with them and when it comes to promotions they choose every brand that they associate them with and can’t go on any shows without permission from the Association.

In my Opinion a haven’t listened to too much K-pop myself but I have friends that really like it and its is nice to see how much they really love the music even though they don’t understand it. It is a cool concept and different from all the other genres of music. It is very appealing just cause the amount of production that goes into each video is high and the beats are catchy most of the time.
