The video I chose is an interview of the song of myself section 6. It is a series of different questions asked to many people to get their views about the poem. It begins with the question what meaning do you get from this work, so people give their different opinions; one-person states that he is talking about immortality as he refers to grass and grass lives and dies so do we live and die too while another person says that Whitman’s considers the grass as democracy there both inevitable like death whether it dies naturally or by bloodshed its forever growing. I appreciate the various views of the poem. The other question I found thought provoking was if we took the minor character of the story and make it the main character, how does it change the story; the response was the minor character in the story is the child so put the child’s mind as the main character then he would see the world and grass as a happier place instead of seeing grass as democracy as Whitman, the child see grass as its playground rather than seeing grass as a place to cover up dead bodies. The child also see grass as life its green it promotes life it makes them happy it allows them to be themselves instead of being what society or their parents want them to be. I like how they also act out the scene of the text a little girl playing on the grass and how the little girl asks Walt Whitman what is grass and Whitman begins to think what is grass; I guess it is a handkerchief of the lord, or I guess the grass is the child itself or I guess it is a uniform hieroglyphic.
