Atmosphere Press’ Song of Myself, by Walt Whitman (Analysis & Interpretation), can be deemed widely informative, but as boring as watching paint dry. Many videos attempt to keep their audiences attentive and aware, even reaching for discussion and engagement in various circumstances. After viewing this video, this can be deemed not one of them. Combine with a low-quality camera, horrible audio, and an irritating sound in the background, this can be deemed a producer’s worst nightmare. However, I think it is critical that we elaborate on the informational quality of the video. Yes, it is widely informative. The host does a great job of speaking on the poem and its underlying meaning. This can be noted as he explains Whitman’s idea of carefulness. He dives heavily into the meaning, developing ideas and interpretation on the piece that is widely valuable. This transitions from carefulness, nature, depth, life, and more. In alignment, he organizes the theme wholesomely. He breaks down the ideas present and elaborates on their importance with evidence from the literature. If I had to rate this, I’d say his identifying and literacy skills are immaculate. However, it seems that he is not aware of his audiences. He uses a low-quality camera with subpar audio. Additionally, his monotone voice makes listening to him equivalent to taking a sleeping pill. He does absolutely nothing to keep his audience awake and interested. If the video quality and his presentation were developed a bit (or a lot) more I’d say this video would be a masterpiece on its own. Of course, this is the most informative and deep video present out of all of them. However, it’s missing visual and auditory quality. Do I hate the video? Yes and no. Its premise is perfected. However, its presentation is nothing less than a trainwreck.
