Jose Clemente Orozco

Zapatistas was painted by a Mexican painter Jose Clemente Orozco on 1931. This painting shows  a bunch of people including men and women heading toward somewhere. This painting caught my attention while visiting MAMO. Due to its influence the of sadness.

To me this painting seems pretty ironic. That there only three color shown on people’s clothing’s; white, blue, and red. It seems like they were heading to a battle, but the men’ clothing seems like they are pretty relaxed. Another thing is that wearing white clothing to a battle, pretty funny and without any protection on them, but handling  sharp weapons. Also, a men with pure white clothing that claiming on the ground. White represents innocent, however, it was wore on a slavery, comparing to others, he does seems like a slavery or a begger. Could it mean the poorest or the people in the lower class is more innocent since all the others is something of covered by red, the color of madness and blood. Which can represent their personality and their desire or wanting battle. To me it represent the innocent and lower class were the beaten ones.

wide sargasso sea

The novel “Wide Sargasso Sea” was more of a pre-intro to the ” Jane Eyre” since the time period of the story happened right before Jane Eyre. “Wide Sargasso Sea” and ” Jane Eyre” have pretty much the same elements in both story, both Antoinette and Jane Eyre was reach for freedom, lonely that no one understand their world, grow up in a similar condition, and last married to Mr. Rochester. But something different about them is that one ended up with a happy ending and the other one was burned to death. They grew up in a similar childhood filled with no understanding from the surrounding because of their uniqueness. However, Antointee more depends on her beauty especially her beautiful and smelling hair, and helps her to catch Mr. Rochester’s love. But a tool is a tool, it can help you a short term but never lasting long. That’s how she ended up in sane. Last, there’s a hand behind Antointee helping her to make determination on marriage and life.Compared to Jane Eyre, she caught Mr.Rochester’s attention by her kindness and unique thought about things. Personality and knowledge will never leave you, it is always on your side. Plus Jane Eyre is luckier than Antointee, since Mr. Rochester lost his property, one else they might not get alone well, and he will alway view Jane Eyre as a dependable woman.

Ruiqi’s Commute

Monday morning, Ruiqi was awaked by alarm. However, she put self into sleep again until the second alarm totally awakes her, because it is so hard for Ruiqi to wake up 5:50 in the morning. Then, she walks out of her home, after preparing herself for school. Passing one street and made a right turn to Q26 bus stop. She felt regret for not wearing a thicker coat, it’s so cold and humanity. However, there’s no time for her to get back home and change her outfit, or else she will be late for her morning class. It took about 20 stops for Q26 to reach Main Street. Ruiqi brought bread from the same bakery every morning when she has morning class. Cashier Lili was always there to service. Cashier Lili was probably thinking “a bread again!” Then, reaching to train 7 station that was the first stop of Manhattan bound 7 trains. Ruiqi quickly got on a express train, this will save her at least 10 minute on travel. She got off Grand Central to make a transfer to train 6, and it took several minute for the train 6 to arrive. And there comes train 6, there were available seats on the train, but Ruiqi decided not to sit since its only 2 stops away from 23th street. Ruiqi got off the train at 7:35 am. There’s 5 minute walk for her to reach her classroom, and there she is, to be on time for class.

To Walk Invisible

After watching the movie “To Walk Invisible”, I feel sad for women that live in Chottle Bronte’s period. They have to hide their real name, since no readers will read a novel written by women. Plus, the female writer will be abused and look down by the society. There were scenes how the Bronte sisters secretly connect with the publish company, letting any other people know including their parents. Kind of feel sad for Bronte sisters can’t use their own names, and hide their habit.

Compare to their brother Barnwell, he’s like a kid. He gave up his chance to be an artist, because of a woman, a married woman. Then, he exiled himself by living with alcohol. Plus, in the beginning of the movie, he blames his father for not providing enough information. The society for women is inequality based on their treadies.

Freud

After reading Freud thinking, I totally agree with his thinking. For those kids, who have mental problems, were usually have family conflict, or I shall say it starts with a family problem. For kids, as the only child, they received all love and attention from parents, once the second child developed, that kid will get received parent’s partial love, and attention. The kid will feel lonely, their parents doesn’t love them anymore. (I feel lonely too, after my sister’s birth, feel like my parents don’t like me anymore, all they do is complaining about me.) Those kids will do things to get back those loves, or else personality reform will be shaped. They feel like since their parents don’t like them anymore, they can do whatever they want no matter what the consequence is as long as they were satisfied. The personality of jealous was formed.

Jane Eyre and Walt Whitman

After reading Walt Whitman’s poem I feel she’s totally free, and was in a relaxing mode. She enjoys her life and goods she likes, but not depending on that materiality. Well, it was kind like Jane Eyre; however, Jane Eyre was not depended on Mr. Rochester because of her self-pride, she doesn’t want others to look down to her true love. Plus, marry to Mr. Rochester due to his wealth. For the definition “untranslatable self” I personally think it means just let things go, and let it be what it is. People don’t have to care what other say about you because they never understand the issues others have.

Jane and Emily

Jane separated herself from rest of the world; she sees what she wants to see. She locked herself in a house that would allow the people or event which she accepted, and denied ones she disliked. Like Emily’s poem locked ones in a house, with everything close. Those types of person make mental disorder and social disorder. Because they have less in touch other, and in touch with the world other than the place have been. The place Jane had been was limited; her aunt’s house, the church, and Rochester’s house. Therefore, she thought were also limited, that she can’t think broadly.

Jane is like a dumb girl after she falls in love on Mr. Rochester. Hence, she accepts none negative bad about her love. Well, she kind of like a normal girl in this way, after they told each other about their love. Jane is allowing Mr. Rochester in her house, and accepting all greeting and ignores the dislikes.

Jane Eyre and Audre Lorde

I have seen similarity between Jane Eyre and Audre Lorde, as of their uniqueness mind, they were not accepted to their surroundings. As of Jane Eyre’s choice, she’s the one that chose not to live in a poor or normal but happy family. Because of the uncertainty of her mom’s relatives, she stayed in her aunt’s house although she got bitten. She can’t regret, once she does had that thought it means she’s wrong, and she doesn’t want to prove that she’s wrong, thus all treaties she had in aunt’s house is worthless. Hence, she will have to keep going, with thoughts being twisted and continuous being more twisted. This is her choice she chooses what her life’s going to be and what type of reactions she received. Compared to Audre Lorde, she felt not accepted because of her color and as being of lesbian. I personally think that Lorder was abused first of color then being lesbian. Even modern day, the racism and bias on homosexual existed compared to mid-1900s it will even stricter. I think women need to be educated, this way women can speak up for themselves, can use verbal to protect themselves, and open up their world. I think instead of education changed Jane Eyre, that she learned how to accept comments that will benefit her, how to communicate with others and hardworking, last to cover up her real thoughts and feeling to protect herself. Lorde tries to protect black feminists and lesbians by educating themselves, and use verbal to protect them. I think it means to attack those who attacked them by a non-violence movement.

Gothic: Romantic Period

Gothic; an new element in literature created in the Romantic Period. Unlike the traditional frictions, Gothic contained the evil sides of the human beings, what they can do to satisify themselves, what kinds of tragedies that can happen to them, and what kinds of evil thought they can think of or come up with. Even today, the Gothic is still popular. Well, the movies to those classic or newly formed stories made from frictions are the best choices for Halloween. At least, they are scary enough to fit the that holiday. Furhtermore, modern literture also contains elements of darkness or the elements of Gothic in frictions they are including murder, the skills murderers use to murder a character, plus many more dark elements are including. Those elements made the stories to be more interesting for readers, and made the stories to be more wonderdul.

Other than literature, in real world people brought the Gothic clothings alive. Especially for girls, those Gothic dress are welcomed by ladies at all age. There’s are mom that brought Gothic styled dress for their daughter just because those dress are good looking. Also, for cosplay festivals, ladies put on Gothic dresses. Plus, in many anime the Gothic elements are used, althought they represents the evil sides. The Gothic has shaped the way how people think, modern day, we viewed those dark elements normally. Without those, we as the readers or movie watchers would think that it is not splendid, can’t bring up our emotion toward the stories.

Introduction to Enlightenment

Based on the introduction of “The Enlightenment in Europe and the Americas”, the author has compared the Enlightenment period and modern period. In Enlightenment era, a time period when  the ideas formed physically and mentally. In physical, they started study the body structure of human, in another word the biology has began to develop, and the improvement of the science. That was the time period when people doubt about the existence of god, and mention that kings and queens were human beings instead of sons and daughters of god, or the ones blessed by god. Those royal families were just like them a regular human being but with a higher class position. The thoughts and highness toward royals has changed, that’s why two hundreds years later, they overtake the kings, for example French Revolution. If the royals continued the ideas of that’s they were sons of god, they might not overtake kings due to respect of god. However, by overtake the royals or leave royals away, people had gained a lot freedom; for instance, in America, the first amendment gave people in America the right to speak up. We as modern day people, are able to gossip about royals, governor, and so on. We don’t have any limit on communicating about any people. Especially, people behind the scene, they can say however they want without any worries. Since no one know who they are behind the scene. Modern society is a community allows people to speak up for themselves and others, but the Enlightenment the key that open up the door for freedom of the speech.
