Woolf’s Sketch of the Past

In Woolf’s novel, Mrs. Dalloway, there are many connections between certain characters even though some of them never interact.  The biggest connection lies between Mrs. Dalloway and Septimus.  Aside from the fact that Mrs. Dalloway and Septimus both have an interest in Shakespeare, they both are introspective relative to life and death.  In the novel, they both look deeper into their own lives.  At first, they are both hopeless.  Mrs. Dalloway wishes to restart her life as she is only recognized by Mr. Dalloway’s wife. Septimus has gone insane and refuses to accept himself and his society. In the end, Septimus commits suicide, but Mrs. Dalloway perseveres. Because of Septimus’ suicide, Mrs. Dalloway accepts life.

A Sketch of the Past

I totally agree with the quotation that we are the words ; we are the music; we are the thing itself. The world is connected with people’s mixed feelings and emotions and it again makes this world. We can find this in the novel Mrs. Dalloway. This novel mingles several people and their feelings towards each other.  It makes us feel that there is another world in this novel.

They are many characters in this novel and the characters interact with each other and it makes a small world. First, Mrs. Dalloway who is a main character is confused who I am and was. It seems that her world is perfect because she has enough money that she can throw a party every day and also has a perfect husband. But she was confused who she really is because she realizes that she lives in her husband’ world, such as that everyone thinks that she is Mr. Dalloway’s wife, not Classia. And her husband, Richard Dalloway is the one whom almost all women is desired to get married to. He holds a government post, is gentle, and a quite person. However, his style of living is not quite the same as her style of living. She wants to live in a safe environment, but her deep inside desires adventures like a girl.

There is another character whose name is Septimus Warren Smith. He commits suicide at the end and has never met up with Mrs. Dalloway but Mrs. Dalloway feels something from his suicide. It seems that he just “dies” but she feels he finally reaches “freedom” from the death.

There are more people around Mrs. Dalloway and they come together and interact with each other, like Mrs. Dalloway feels that Septimus reaches a freedom from his death and finally it makes a small world.

Morning Commute

At 6:50AM vexing howls chimed throughout the Brooklyn home. It was sound of Irving’s mother trying to wake up his noncompliant younger sisters so they could get ready for school. He immediately thought to himself “I need to move out already”. As he looked at his phone he realized that he had slept through his alarm and was going to be late for work. He dashed into the shower then hopped in a Cab using a free credit he’d received in order to get there on time. During the ride he gave the driver specific directions to avoid any standstills in traffic. The driver told him that he seemed to have “a strong sense of urgency”. He snickered and replied that it wasn’t the first time he’d been told that; he was often in a rush to get somewhere or to get something done. That morning It was a lot chillier than the day before but it was alright because Irving enjoyed the brisk chill. He got to his morning job at his former school with less than a minute to spare. This made him was really anxious, however, ironically he had a peculiar sense of excitement realizing he would get there just in time. At 9AM he finished up and headed to the subway station. The walk was a bit long but luckily he had his favorite app Spotify to shuffle his favorite rap playlist. He then entered a brief state of tranquility, the first since he had woken up.

Commute

After a long sleep Mayer wakes up at 7:45 AM. After cleaning his face and brushing his teeth he runs through his emails and social media. He often times thinks “How stupid is social media” but he still uses it all the time. He finally heads out to go work before school begins at 12:25. He takes the B train from Kings Highway to Broadway-Lafayette and transfers to the 6. As he is mid transfer he bumps into a friend from Baruch named Mike. As I approached Mike he said “Long time no see” and Mayer hates hearing that because he hears it so often. He then leaves Mike and heads to the Diamond District to speak with vendors and buy product for his jewelry company called Adina’s Jewels. He then rushes to school all sweaty after running around from vendor to vendor. He gets on the 6 train and smells coffee since someone spilled on the platform. Now he’s really uncomfortable so he buys deodorant before going to class. He smells good and is ready to go to class but realizes he hasn’t eaten anything yet, so he grabs a healthy smoothie as a part of his diet. He texts his buds that are in his English class and catches up with what went on the past weekend.

Commute to Baruch

Walking towards the door in a sweatshirt, Kyriakos began to realize it was cooler outside than it had first looked. He turned right out of his dorm building onto 97th street, enjoying a comfortable breeze. He walked towards 96th street, making a right towards the Lexington avenue 6-train and passed the local halal cart which filled the air with its delicious yet nauseating smell. After walking down the steps into the subway station, Kyriakos was pleased to see that the next downtown train was only three minutes away. The train arrived in no time and unloaded its passengers, but gained about twice the amount. With this many people, it seemed Kyriakos and his roommate would have to stand for the train ride but after a few stops, a family seated in front of them got off, leaving them with a place to sit. Once the train arrived at 28th street, Kyriakos and his roommate got up and exited the train. While walking out of the door onto Park avenue it was clear that the wind had picked up. Would a heavier jacket have been more appropriate? Kyriakos walked passed a mass of construction on 28th street towards Lexington avenue which filled the air with noise and particles of dirt. After making a right onto Lexington avenue, Kyriakos walked passed the library through the plaza and entered the Baruch College Vertical Campus. He walked up to the turnstiles, making eye contact with Chester, the security guard who monitors the entrance with same dissatisfied look on his face every day. Kyriakos continued to class and made it with plenty of time to spare.

Happiness is inside of the train where little babies looking at people and give little smile. That smile was stunning, they will get person excited want to get some happiness from them. Little baby Jessi looking at lazy student but will be good student very soon, smiling at her with a lot of hope and dreams. The love shown through her eyes so Jessi could understand how much getting older is not really bad but not really good either.
