The poem Bright Star is a short poem by John Keats but it is very difficult to understand. John Keats starts off by saying “Bright star, would I were stedfast as thou art–Not in lone splendour hung aloft the night”. In this sentence he describes a star that is never alone in the big sky. John could be envying the characteristics of a star and how it is never alone. He could have wrote this poem in a time where he was alone and wanted someone by his side but had no one.
In the second two sentences he says “And watching, with eternal lids apart, Like nature’s patient, sleepless Eremite.” Again Keats is envying the stars by saying that they see everything and know everything that has happened. John Keats could have been betrayed at this time and again he wishes to be a star who is never alone and could see everything that happened.
Then John keats goes on to further explain the stars and introduces a female character. I think he wrote this poem for a women who he loved. She could have broken his heart by cheating on him and lying to him. She probably left him in the long run so he feels even more alone and hurt. This is why he wants to be like a star in the sky. A star can see everything and know what is going on and never be alone.
