Henry V “Proposal Scene” Critique

The scene study was a very interesting idea to put Shakespeare into our real lives. We were able to take a character and try to play their part. I found it very difficult to play Act 5 Scene 2, although I had three lines total. I played the role of Alice, Katherine’s attendant, who spoke only in French. Of course, I don’t know an ounce of French so it was uncomfortable reading those three lines.

It was also difficult to find a place that captured the intimacy between King Henry and Katherine. I tried to have fun during this experience and made an attempt to be the best Alice I could be!

Macbeth

I thought it was very interesting when the Professor introduced the idea that Macbeth could have had PTSD. It raised a stimulating argument that I had never thought about before. However, I don’t necessarily agree. Macbeth, in my opinion, is a character that thought things over before actually putting his plans into action. He did begin to lose his sanity after he killed.

This quick paced play, covers many different tragedies in a matter of acts. Some of the murders were unexpected and unnecessary. I believe Macbeth and Lady Macbeth got what they deserved in the end. Lady Macbeth took her own life and Macbeth was killed by Macduff.

A+…

That’s the grade I’ve chosen to give this play!!! I thought it was very interesting. I finished the play a couple of days ago and I couldn’t put the classic down. This is actually weird being that it is Shakespeare’s play. Usually I’m confused, turned off, or the story line is redundant and I’m uninterested.

Throughout the scenes, I wondered what would happen next. Is Benedick actually going to kill Claudio for the love of Beatrice? How romantic!! Or would Claudio kill himself after finding out the false news that Hero died? This play wasn’t as predictable as others I’ve previously read.

The back and forth love/hate relationship Beatrice and Benedick had was entertaining. I anticipated reading the next scene, hoping they’d make an appearance.

Cruel Intentions…

While reading The Taming of the Shrew, the Induction is interesting. The lord notices that Christopher Sly is extremely drunk, to say the least, and attempts to make a mockery of the beggar. He orders his servants to take him inside and treat him as a lord by putting him in a bed, putting rings on his fingers, and even setting a banquet for him. The lord even has his pageboy, Bartholomew, dress up to play the part as Sly’s wife.

Once Sly arises from his deep slumber, he is confused. After the men convince him of his hierarchy, he is focused on spending a night with his wife. The lord’s cruelty and deception for pure entertainment is astonishing.
