Nicholas O’Brien: The Four Tools

Nicholas O’ Brien: The Four Tools exhibition was really interesting.  I liked his idea of turning tools such as a coatrack, the church key, the eraser and the broom into a story about h0w these items are literally used but also the essence of these items which then turns into a story of analogies relating to his life. All four tools had their own narrative by the artist himself.  The video I enjoyed the most was Accepting the Essential Errors.

Accepting the Essential Errors told a story and narrative about an Eraser.  He was telling us that when he was younger, he excessively used the eraser but as he got older he randomly uses it because the delete bottom on a keyboard has taken its place.    Technology can edit, spell check or  use the delete bottom to delete things. Technology does not show error marks on a paper, therefore it can negatively impact our creativity.

I liked how simple yet artistic his video was. It was touching.  His use of his own voice went well with the video because it was   smooth and it have melancholy tone to the video.  Also the abstract sounds in the background gave it a tone of reminiscing a moment in time.  The 3D illustrations were also very simple yet crisp.  I liked that he used bold colors to highlight the items that he was referring to.
