Question #1: What camera techniques did you use in Project 1? What do they do for you and your subject?
Benni used zoom and hand held camera techniques in his video to evoke and highlight his cat’s emotions. It allows him to show according to what he think looks best the many different angles and positions of his cat because of this.
Question #2: What inspired you to choose your cat as a subject? Did you get inspiration from any art works or exhibitions we’ve seen so far?
Benni initially chose his cat because it’s easy to do and fun for him to work on. Later on, he realized that his work is somehow connected to a video art we’ve seen in class – “I am making art.” Random scenes and shots of his cat, for him, are art that convey meanings.
Question #3: If you were to re-do your Project 1, what would you have done differently?
If Benni were to re-do his Project 1, he would do a self video portrait similar to his final project in his previous NMA class. He initially thought of this but decided to use his cat instead. He said that “it could have been a lot better” if he can control his subject which can allow his to control emotions and tone of his project.
