Willoughby Sharp brought up an Interesting point when he said-“video helped to fill the gaps left by the slow, but inexorable eviction of painting and sculpture from their dominant position in contemporary art.” Since video is a combination of performances, sounds, visuals, and durations; almost inevitably video is capable of grabbing the attention of larger masses than paintings and sculptures. It is a more concrete way of ideation, that also allows for a wide array of interpretations at any given day and age. But more importantly what Sharp is pointing out here is that although the once conventional art is nearly dying out, video in a more dynamic way is replacing it. In other words, art as an object is dying out but its digital form is revolutionizing the very idea of it.
