“Digital information is thus characterised by transformation, degradation, circulation, but also by its surprising ability to mutate and produce unpredictable results.”
What a fascinating read. One of my favorites so far. You can tell the writing was so fluid and packed with concrete ideas and wonderful theories. The glitch. A common word for gamers explaining a freak occurrence. The glitch has a new name for me. In beauty in art, in discussion. The glitch has found itself in these works and has worked to not only disarm the nature of occurrence but flatter it. The two people in this article can frame the concept of it simply by accepting it as beauty as well as something to strive for. It goes back in my mind as a record or cd scratch. The original work is tainted but as I like to say a broken clock is right two times a day. And when the record skips or repeat it takes on a new meaning a form of beauty that is hard to replicate. A journey to the errors has made its way into the art world and I am fascinated by it. In this age of technology we should welcome the glitch as not only profound but beautiful Things may be damaged but we should appreciate it for not being gone. A way of life almost.
In reference to the tumblr article. I didn’t get what tumblr was until I read this article which made me download the app and boy did I get lost in its hyper-sharing unending content. With its limitless possibilities as far as content is mostly due to no restrictions of nudity or anything else. The article pointed to a specific profile which I followed and was pleasantly surprised with variety. The article makes a good point though. The internet is the new medium for artwork and media in general. No need to visit the museum, the need is to get lost in the history of posts.
