Intro

“For neither the first nor the last time, young voices rose up and announced that art was dead.”

I think this statement is really interesting because in art, people are always looking to expand their horizons. While there are periods of time where people feel easel art is obsolete, it will never truly go away. I believe that the basics will essentially always be there. Art can be so many different things, as well as a combination of many different things. Maybe one form of art can inspire you in another form of art. For example, I doodle in my notebooks before coming up with concepts for videos without really knowing what direction I will take it in. Although my main medium is not pen and paper, it is an essential part of my creative thought process. I also agree with the part of the passage under, “The Death of the Art Project,” that performance art is the perfect medium of art. You can view performance art as it is happening, rather than watching its completed form, like in video art. There is no editing when you are onstage, it is simply what you perform at that moment, which I think is truly beautiful. I didn’t quite get why they only considered video art as “suitably ephemeral.” To create the video art, requires art, and should not be looked down as a lesser form of art.
