Many people are excited to hear that Loew’s King Theatre in Central Brooklyn is being restored. Among the excited few is a lady named Maria who is in her seventies and has been living in the Flatbush neighborhood for fifty years. She believes that the neighborhood “is not as balanced as it used to be” in terms of the groups that lived in the neighborhood when she first moved in: White Americans, Irish Americans, and Jewish Americans. Now there are Hispanics, East Indians, West Indians and Africans living in this area. She said “I sought of miss the other blend.” Maria brought her children to this Theatre to watch movies. When asked how does she believe people felt when the Theatre was closed, she mentioned that people were sad and deprived because this is where families brought their children to watch a movie. Maria said, “We’ve been waiting a long time.” She is excited for the opening of the Theatre and she said “I hope they do well,” commenting on the success of the Theatre when it opens. Maria also mentioned that families would not have to go far to catch a movie or a performance which will make everyone happy.
