Strand: A Book Lovers Dream

Strand is a book store located close to Union Square however it is not as noticeable as Barnes and Nobles. If a person in NYC does not feel the christmas spirit coming then bookstores are the perfect place to do so.  Christmas songs playing in the background and people surrounding displays of books and reading excerpts were located in every floor. The store in regards towards space is very big, there are so many sections to go to and so many different things to look at that time here would not be wasted,  it would be time well spent. Workers stood around offering help while other workers ran around arranging books that were misplaced. In the first floor, at the entrance, the number of books is not overwhelming or at least it appears not to be since most of the books are laid out on tables. Moving further back in the first floor it starts to resemble more and more one of those libraries that are located in castles mostly seen in movies. The shelfs occupy space from left to right and are so tall they reach the ceiling. The back is where all the old books are, the books that have that certain smell that only belongs to them. There is a sense of authenticity to them in comparison to the fresh smelling books located at the entrance of the bookstore.  The atmosphere can completely change all depending on the section that you go to. For example the  Children’s section is extremely colorful and seeing books that I have read during my childhood makes me travel back to that time and gives me the same excitement. The art section is extremely quiet  and it feels like the sections that people can walk around the most freely and observe book for long they please. Strand is a book lovers dream because while barnes and noble is also a good book store , strand has the atmosphere to it as if you were to step into a movie scene in a library or bookstore years ago.
