Thrift Shopping

Walking into a  thrift store seems like walking into a huge closet with no ending. The minute you step in you are swarmed by clothes and transported to many decades in the past. Wave after wave , rack after rack, walking past  many years of fashion crazes and trendsetting pieces.  It’s not polished like Forever21, instead the air carries the smell similar to that of opening an old book.  Caps and hats are all barely holding on to the clips that support their place on the racks.  Logos of restaurants and baseball clubs embellished the caps completely in contrast with today’s big brand companies having their logos on caps.Skirts from long to short and leather to cotton are so compacted together that trying to move the racks to browse through them causes my arms to hurt. The next rack was composed  of  high-waisted jeans made of that extremely rough and thick jean material that was key to 90s fashion. Along with them came the 80s with the bell bottom jeans.  Hangers against the racks create the sound similar to that of nails on a chalkboard so looking at the pieces of clothing cannot be done in a haste.

A family speaking spanish huddled around the jackets preparing their wardrobe for when the weather finally starts to feel like autumn.  Their talk became heated as more and more individuals contributed to the conversation, so I figured it was better to avoid that area for the time being. Dodging past the rack and circling around them  next a huge glass window a colossal wave of clothes submerged me under their visual, immediately browsing I pulled out a black jacket with frills with a 70s vibe. I could literally find anything I wanted in this place and eve though the place smelled slightly like dust it was a whole new discovery of fashion periods that I had no experienced before but could experience now. Some use go thrifting  to travel back in time while others go thrifting to find pieces that will suit their nonconforming style in today’s society.
