The Crying Game

I had a different outlook to this movie than others in the class.  The first thing that I noticed is that the part of the film where the chase is happening everyone thought that Jody said “you wouldn’t shoot your brother in the back” but in actuality he said “you wouldn’t shoot a brother in the back”  and this takes the statement into a whole other direction that was pointed out in class.  In my opinion it was not a statement showing the brotherly bond between the two(countries) rather it was a simply racial advantage statement Jody used in order to escape.

I also have to agree with Chynelle on this point. Jody is in the military and he’s trained to escape, fight and keep his mouth silent. He chosed his target in order to manipulate.

I have to agree with you Chynelle. That one word changed the whole statement. On that scene alone, I think Jody used it as a racial advantage to escape. I also felt that Jody said that to Fergus to question his morals and his courage. It is not deemed heroic to shoot someone unarmed and when they’re facing backwards. Jody and Fergus both belong to military groups therefore he knew Fergus would understand and would not shoot him. At the beginning of the film we see them become friends regardless of where they’re from, who they represent and what they look like.
