Every movie we’ve watched so far I feel has done something to place females in a negative light. Starting with Bond, the obvious, who notoriously feels like women are play-things to Arthur in Saturday Night, Sunday Morning, women are constantly placed into a category of either pretty and stupid or ugly and smart/mean, but either way expendable. Looking at both movie posters one can see the notion of how the only way to garner power as a female in a male dominated society full of machismo in post-wat Britain would be through her sexuality. There is another movie poster I saw for the cover of Saturday Night, Sunday Morning where all you see is Arthur’s face looking up from the bed at a woman whose face you can’t see. All you can see is the strap from her nightgown that has playfully fallen off her shoulder.
you can see the “manliness” defined in the way Sean Connery and Albert Finney are dressed. Both of them are in tuxedos, hair done a certain way, and have a beautiful woman on their arm… judging from their poses in the posters, they are very confident that they can get just about any woman….at least that is what it looks like to me.
