Have you ever tried to drink wine and eat Chinese food together, but thought that the two did not match!? Well you are partially correct. Chinese foods have complex spices and it usually does not go well with wine. However, wine enthusiast have tried to match different types of wine with Chinese Food and they have determined that Riesling can stand up to the spices and create a refreshing feeling.

Chinese Food by Yanmei Huang

As reported in the New York Times on October 21st, 2013, restaurants serving the cuisines of Taiwan, Shanghai and Fujian have opened in the city’s Chinatown, Flushing in Queens, Sunset Park and homecrest in Brooklyn. “Chinese food is defined by a flavor principle of soy sauce, ginger, garlic and green onions” and methods including stir-frying and steaming,” said by a professor of anthropology at the University of California. Even New York’s young Korean-Americans go out for Chinese food, they often eat ja jiang mien, boiled noodles in a rich meat sauce.

Eating like a Bear Cat

Around Baruch there is a large variety of food you can eat and you can easily find yourself surrounded by Asian foods. There is a Japanese restaurant which serves ramen along with other Japanese cuisines. There is also Chinese takeout and a dumpling shop called Di Di Dumpling. As for Korean food there is an fast food cart and an fusion grill.  The food is delicious and amazingly affordable.  The servers are friendly and there are many options to choose from when ordering your meal.  More importantly, it is convenient for a Bearcat to get food near the school because there are so many different Asian foods to choose from and the service is fast.  Baruch’s cafeteria embraces the Asian cuisine as well and serves its own Chinese food and sushi such as fried rice, fried noodles, and soup noodles.  Asian food represents the richness of each Asian country that contributes to it.  What is there not to like about Asian food?

When Chinese foods appear in America, it doesn’t match the Americans’ taste. People then change the Chinese foods in a way that is accepted by Americans. It is called Meiguorende kouwei. According to Linda Huang, it is taste of sweet, sour and a little spicy. It is something like cultural diffusion. Food is part of a culture; if a food culture is not accepted by the majority of the other culture, hybrid foods will be cooked by some creative chefs. These hybrid foods are the cuisines that are accepted by both cultures. In the news, they mention one example of the hybrid food which is Lemon chicken. It is chicken with sour and sweet taste. Although the hybrid food seems tasty, some people might want to eat real Chinese foods. In fact, Chinese food is not hard to find in America. I guess that there are many in Flushing and China town

Asian Food Crisis by Cato Peng

This New York Times article talks about an increase of the need for Asian foods. Recently there were widespread protests in Indonesia, because there was a rise in the price of soybeans in January. The most commonly used Asian foods is rice and the price of rice has risen 165% in the past year, and also because of bad weather and an increase in consumption there has been a shrinking supply of rice.
