Course Schedule

Below is the schedule of assignments and content goals.   It is divided into three units:  Analysis, Research, and Project Revision.  Please pay attention to the following notes before reading the schedule:

All Exercises are Posted in Grey Each exercise has a Take 1 and a Take 2 component:  The Take 1 of all exercises are due 24 hours before the F2F class Tuesdays at 12:25 pm.  Take 2 of the exercise is due at 48 hours after the F2F class, Fridays at 12:25 pm.  All exercises should be posted on the course site with the appropriate marked categories.  For details aboutspecific  exercises, including the accompanying reading, check the assignments page.

Hand-In Assignment Deadlines are posted in red; they are due by email as word documents.

University Deadlines are posted in Blue

Group Meeting Deadlines are posted in green.  Following your group’s meeting with me, you will be required to post a project update.  I will give you specific details for the post during our meeting.

UNIT: ANALYSIS

 

WEEK 1 Introduction

Day 1-Feb 1: The Basics

F2F Content Goals:  Syllabus Overview, Final Project, Using the Technology, Group Assignments

Day 2- Feb 3:  Descriptive Writing

F2F Content Goals: Defining Objectivity & Subjectivity and Content vs Form; Introducing analysis [identifying component parts]

WEEK 2 Evaluative Claims

February 10 – F2F Content Goals: Discuss difference between reviews, critiques, evaluations;  Analysis Part 2 (assessing parts within a rubrics; making a supported evaluation of the whole)

WEEK 3 Interpretive Claims (the Arts)

February 17– F2F Content Goals:  Introduce Single Text Analysis, Go over Strategies for Narrowing Scope and Close Reading Analysis Part 3 (interrogating how parts speak to each other; making a supported interpretation about the meaning or effects of the whole)

Evaluative Claim Paper Due: Feb 20 Sat. 9am

 

WEEK 4 Interpretive Claims (History) 

February 24 – F2F Content Goals: Multi-Text Analysis (Using the Vogue “Fashion: Brevity …” articles); Steps for Comparing and Contrasting; Analysis Part 4 (making a claim about the meaning or effect of multiple texts when put together).

UNIT: RESEARCH

WEEK 5  Starting Out

March 2 – F2F Content Goals: Formulating Research Questions, Identifying Types of Sources, Figuring out Where to Find Sources

Textual Analysis Paper Due:  Mar 5 Sat. 9am
