(It was the Global Community Awareness workshop that pretty much nobody went to.)
Only six people (including me and the instructor) were there in a about 500 seat room for about an hr and 15 minutes. I don’t know where everybody else was. A Hispanic girl, (I think) an Indian girl, an Asian girl, and a Jamaican guy showed up. But they didn’t like the movie, “The Intimate Stranger”, either (the Indian one even said it was really boring). So there really wasn’t much to talk about afterwards since no one really wanted to talk about it.
The only reason I went there was because I figured no one else would be there so it wouldn’t be so crowded, it was a free movie and I didn’t want to babysit my little brother (I’ve been his glorified nanny for the last 2 and a half years anyway so today’s not going to be the end of the world). But after seeing it, I saw why it was free. It was about (I think) an Italian man’s life and the diversity that was in his family (I’m not too sure but it was something like that). He and his family members were able to speak different languages and they lived in a lot of different homes (which I can relate to since I move around a lot so I know what that can be like).
To put it lightly, I’ve seen better elementary school plays and movies (movies from everywhere around the world). There were some parts of the movie in the middle that didn’t seem to be in chronological order so it just flat out confused me. (I still don’t know what was going on.) There was also another thing that just got on my nerves: there was too many typewriter sounds.
But overall, the guy did have an interesting life. It’s not everyday that you’ve lived just about everywhere and you and your siblings can speak at least four different languages; languages from groups that are outside your ethnic background. (I only know English so I thought that was interesting.) I like his life. I just don’t like the way he did his movie too much with all the typewriting sounds and how he just kept talking and talking. That just bores me and puts me to sleep. I think if he made the movie in a similar setup like the way the movie “Casino” (starring Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci) was made (with some talking in it but also with some scenes acted out to give the viewers more of a feel/no holds barred/close up look at his life) it would’ve been a bit more engaging. But unfortunately, the director probably wouldn’t think of that since Casino was made in 1995 and The Intimate Stranger was made in 1991.
