I attended FRESHMAN SEMINAR aka FRESH on September 17th. This event occurred during club hours and was highly populated. There was a line to get in and I thought maybe the event would be super special. However, this was not the case. The event was the first freshman workshop and since workshops were not mandatory, they did not expect such a huge surge of students. To end the workshop, they just signed our books and made us leave.

Pretty simple introduction into database research. The end result of the workshop was understanding that if i have the ability to use google i can also use the Baruch database. It was a good idea seeing as many people, including myself, need scholarly articles along with rare sources to back up their research. But overall the workshop was uninformative because it was geared towards people who have never used a computer or a search engine before.
I attended the Freshmen Reception on Sept. 17. The workshop basically gave us an idea about how to schose classes and how the tier system worked. THis workshop did not really take me out of my comfort zone. But it did teach me alot about the majors and minors and what classes are required for what degree. Even though this workshop did not last long vecause the got 3 tiems as many student then they predicted, they still imfromed us pertty well.
So in place of my Academich Enrichment work Shop, i Went to an Arts at Baruch Workshop. I went to one of the Gallery tours in the 22nd st building. This was the 2nd workshop that i went to that was a complete waste of time. I waited in line for literaly an hour and then some, i contemplated leaving, especially afteri finaly got to the door, and had to ait more. the acctual tour was blah interesting. The artist’s work was acctually pretty nice. would i go back, not if i have to deal with such a line again.

This workshop was to inform and teach students how to effectively use Baruch library database. It was a very informative workshop because I often have to do a research for various essays, papers and speeches. It is very convenient to have all the information you need at one place and to have a abstract of every article. The speaker also explained what is the right way to search (for example, of you want to search a whole phrase, you have to put “…” around the phrase). I would definitely recommend this workshop to everyone because it’s very helpful and informative.

The workshop was created to inform us about the different Tiers in Baruch. It didnt really take me outside my comfort zone, I came there to get some information about the majors and minors about Baruch. It didnt meet my expectations because it was completely disorganized because they didnt expect so many people to attend the event. And I cant recommend the workshop to other students ince it was a 1 time deal. We were given a folder with all the information that we need to know, which we reviewed in a classroom with the instructor. It provides all the requiremts for the Tiers as well as all the options that we have. So if I ever need to know anything about minors and whatnot I could always refer to the folder that was provided.
I attended the annual student services fair on Tuesday, October 13. This workshop was so so far the most enlightening. We had to go to at least ten different stands and get a hole punched to ensure a signature so we had to stay. However, I learned a lot of helpful information by staying. For one, I learned that I can get the HPV vaccine here and Baruch for free. I also learned about the Writing Center, and I think I will go there next time I need to write a paper in order to get better feedback.

This workshop is to inform students about the minors that are offered in Baruch. The advisors explained the handout/folder that they gave out to the students. However, I was extremely surprise at the disorganization of this whole event because they kicked students out and before they did, they told us to go back on Monday to get the folder. I chose this event because Baruch sent a postcard to my house and it looked interesting. It took me out of my comfort zone because I always thought that some of these workshops would be pointless. I would recommend it to the other students because the minor requirements are extremely important to know especially before declaring the minor and it also explains how to declare a minor. However, I would not recommend it for those people who hate crowded rooms. I learned about the tiers, minors and majors that we can pick from.
