    Gallery tour: Mercedes Matter
    December 1st
    135 E 22nd Street

This was a workshop of a specific artist. Mercedes was her last name. She was an artist who started off fairly young around the age of 4. Where she developed many great different talents as an artist. This was the last workshop left I believe. To be honest I thought this was going to be a large art gallery. I mean I have been to many different museums and other art galleries or art classes and etc. but I have to say, this was one small art gallery. The whole tour was over in about 20-30 minutes. I would recommend this to the freshman’s in the sense that it is really short and quick, but generally it was REALLY short and it was hard to learn anything in that time. I did learn that this artist did make many paintings where it is not easy to be seen by the naked eye. Normally she drew in certain triangles which allowed people to depict the painting easier.

I attended A Reading of “A Doll’s House”. This was a play written by Henrik Ibsen and we attended it for our ENG2100 class. The play was interesting because it talked about many important features of a relationship. A married couple have many conflicts and throughout the play you watch them deal with it. It’s interesting because there is a lot of secrecy and arguments develop from this. It did not take me outside my comfort zone because I sat relaxed in a chair. I would recommend watching this play.

This was a wonderful workshop! The art was beautiful and inspiring. I have always love art. Many years ago I would draw and paint. However, over time, I began to lose my passion for it. Attending this workshop inspired me to go home and draw. The landscapes in the gallery were amazing. There was one picture of 4 nudes laying on their stomachs. Their buttocks created the illusion of hills. It was the most breathtaking piece in the whole gallery. the purpose of this workshop was to enlighten students about the wonders of art. It accomplished its goal with flying colors (pun intended). I recommend this workshop to anyone and everyone. It will take you on a marvelous journey outside of your comfort zone!

I went to a gallery tour on 10/13 atarting at 12:45. The tousr was fairly quick, it onyl took around 20 minutes. I went in this tour expecting a tour of paintings and drawings but was completely suprised to find that this was a photo gallery tour. I picked this workshop to bring me out of my comfort zone because I was never interested in art before. I was hopeign this could show me somethign about the arts that might spark my interest. Even though this workshop was short it showed me alot about photography and how a picture is not jsut a picture. I would recommend this because it shows how you can take photography to a whole new level.

We were given a tour of the gallery and the instructor wanted to show us the different photographs that were put up and the techniques used to take them. It took me out of my comfort zone because I have never been to a photograph gallery, I’ve only seen painting galleries, so this was new to me. I guess it met my expectations since I didnt die of boredom or anything and I would recommend it to another student since its a nice perspective on photography. I learned some pretty interesting things about photography like for example one photo’s intent was to drag the spectator in since it started in the middle of the boat, giving the impression that you could actually walk right on into the photo. There are always some small things that the photographer might intend that I wouldnt pick up right away, and the tour taught me to be more aware of these things.

The event that I went to was called The Nature of Landscapes on October 8. It was a tour in the Mishkin Gallery where we were shown photographies by various artists. The theme of this exhibition was nature, as maybe obvious by its name. The tour guide was able to show different side of each photograph which I wasn’t able to see before her discription. This workshop didn’t necessarily take me out of my comfort zone bacuse I went to galleries before and I like art. I only was dissapointed that the tour guide didn’t discribe all work bacuse there were too many people.

at this workshop we were introduced to a few unique art styles. we realized that art does not have to always been drawn or painted but a photograph is art in itself. one photo conveyed calmness. In a picture by Erica Lennard the only colors that were used were shades of gray which were black white and gray itself, the picture it self was relatively simple only containing two trees on a plain of grass with the white sky in the background. This workshop took me outside of the comfort zone by allowing me to realize that photography is also an art and that much can be conveyed through a photo, such as mood, feeling, and personality. this workshop definitely met my expectations because i saw and learned new things about art. i would recommend this worshop to other students because it will allow them to broaden their horizons about what they conceive art to be, and about the fact that art is always about painting.

This workshop was to inform students about the gallery and arts in Baruch. The tour was to show us four photographs. One of the photographs was calm and relaxing picture. The tour guide told us that photographs that do not have a slant means that there is no action or motion going on in the picture. There was a picture of four naked people which portrays a landscape. It was outside my comfort zone because I never really appreciate art and photographs. When I hear the word “art,” I think about the old painting by Picasso, Van Gogh, and Michelangelo. This workshop failed to meet to my expectations because I thought that the tour guide was going to show us more landscape pictures such as a sunset or something to that extent. I would recommend this to anyone who loves contemporary art. I learned how to look at a photo and know what is going on in the photo.

I went to the Art Gallery tour on 10/6 in the 23rd street building. The tour was fairly quick and all of the artworks were actually photographs. The photos were manipulated by their artists to give people certain feelings when viewing them. All of the photos were of landscapes. I rarely ever go to see modern art, so this aspect of the workshop took me out of my comfort zone. I also have never even been in that administrative building before. So basically from the workshop i learned new ways of looking at photos, and how to analyze them a bit closer. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to try new things or take a look at some art.

The workshop I attended was titled “Gallery Tour: The Nature of Landscape.” It categorized as a Arts at Baruch workshop which took place today (10/06/09) from 1pm -2pm. The workshop was simply a tour of four specific photographs. Two of them that stood out to me where Erica Lennard’s photo and Alen McWeeney’s. Erica’s had a calm photo. It was really unusual because of it simplicity. The sky was white, the grass was gray, and the trees were black. Most photo are unlike this one because they are unusually complex in their messages but this one was clearly what it was. Alen’s photo was a natural photo. He was it full of color and very appealing. I selected this workshop because I wanted to see this new gallery I’ve never been to. I took me out of my comfort zone because mostly all photographs that I no of as in color. Almost all of these were in black and white, which I am really not used to. I would recommend this workshop because its something different, a photo gallery.
